EDGE forum or EDGE profile?

So here it is the all new Edge-Online.com. Merging one old magazine and an older magazine in to a single brand offering consistency complete with profiles and blogs. Is this the collaborative future we need? Will we the profiled become vital contributors? Time will tell. Though with all the shiny newness of design one major critism, blogs networks are all well and good, people connect and share relevant points but there is no personality to a community properly without discussion boards or be it groups on social networks. Though I'd hate a system that featured groups to be introduced into this place as then I really will start pissing on the press release. What after groups, third party PHP6.0 applications? Get facefucked!

Yes, I am having a go at the merger already! I don't mind the new site, peaved I had to sign up again though. I just feel the opporunity needs to siezed and the community completed by creating front page access to the existing forum hosted over the road at CVG. Who cares if people sign up to it or not? A link would still help keep the forum fresh. Some may argue that it's a forum full of stereotypical gamers, allowing access would mean very few industry types would want to occupy it. I would like to say that isn't the case and there are a few named industry types out there who do use the forum and have used the forum. Whilst they may individually all have recieved varying responses, like anyone on any forum, from avid supporters to sheer hayterz, the community of readers be them gamers or professionals deserve a channel to discuss all relevant topics regardless of career, social status, gender or race and be taken as seriously as the next contributor and the industry deserves to be able to spy on what the community is discussing.

I mean seriously, Future, Edge, original-Next-Gen posse, I dunno who I am appealing too, get a link to the EDGE FORUMS please!

I just got the latest issue of EDGE and upon reading the letters section was shocked to discover that the forum was on another site.

There are problems with this site aswell. Theres no sense of community at all. Do you have to be an industry insider to get noticed around here or what?

Im not saying I want to get noticed its just that when you post blogs and other articles of that nature naturally you want people to read them. Yet its almost immpossible to get your views (blogs) heard on this site.

I imagine that it would be easier to get heard on the forum but then the trouble with forums is that sometimes the people who post on them can be quite irrational and post things that really have nothing to do with games in any way, shape or form.

Sorry to bounce this post :D

Here's me thinking that the Comments pages that were the be all and end all of the Edge Experience Online.

However, whilst flicking through the latest issue, I paused for a second on the letters page. Noticing, indeed that there is a forum and you have published the best comments from it. How have I missed this before ?

Promptly tried to login only to find that my Edge Username and password doesn't work and that I have to re-register. This is all very well and good. But why not have a proper forum attached to this website, rather than a forum in its own right, wouldn't that be easier and more visible

We're honestly surprised that the forum is still going. Perhaps they really do love us in a bastard child that you never talk about kind of way.

I wonder how many other people have never noticed Online/Offline.

I can see why they might be non too keen to promote the forum or want to change it. There is a lot of pathetic posts made there. Bad attempts at humour, pointless private arguments, insulting people who try to make an interesting thread. However, when we stick to just discussing games, it's pretty good.

Slandering people for ideas be them ill thought or just because another body doesn't agree leads to all kinds of petty disputes, I for one, among others get ripped on the spot just for posting by some of the more petty minded, supercilious cnuts that do occupy our forums. I like some of the banter but yes we are just better when only talking about games. And to be fair it's at a pace that we can all keep up to date with unlike trying to follow a thread on a competitors site.

I am afraid so :)

Good thing the search function works!

I was looking for the link to the forums but found you blog Beano!
Like so many of your posts on the board, I can only agree with your
opinion!
Just To emphasize what you said.
Just today I read this:

"You dont make communities you enable them!"

Oh and by the way here's your back door into the forum!

With kind regards,

Marc also known as Okra on the forums

Yerse, excellent news, so at least we have assurance that this site has been tested for some principles of design, in terms of the search facility. I hope you just typed edge forum too, ftw! Your reenforcement welcomed, cheers Marc.

I like the way the 'Official Edge Forum' needs a back door key, part of me is a-buzz that the chances of gamasutra / neogaf rejects finding our passionate and bantering community is much slimmer, though the rest of me genuinely feels like the next-gen followers are missing out, as well as this I feel cast aside by campbell and mott. I want to poke them on facefuck for it. I'd post Colin Campbell facebook profile url so others could join in but that would be a bit unfair! I'm sure the decision was given careful thought.

Cheers,

Mark aka Beano on the forums.

PS Are you the same Okra who's near the top of the Edge Folding@Home team? If so, good on you I hope you get a Nobel Prize, keep it up!
