Everybody knows what happened - after the first trailer, where the white guy (Chris Redfield) is shooting tons of black guys (zombies), wave of criticism showed up. Why? Unnecessarily I think.
Wake up, critics - the game is set in some small african village. Wouldn't it be a bit strange to have this african villgage full of white zomibes? Or any white zombies at all? Black zombies do fit there. They belong there, because they live there, it's their village and some kind of virus turned them into zombies.
Chris Redfield is white. So what? Of course he is white, because he's like that from the beginning of the RE series. And now, this Chris comes to the small village in Africa, so who would you expect he will find there? White zombies? Shooting black zombies is a good choice for this game setting. I am pretty sure, that if Chris would be black, there wouldn't be a single complaint. Black dude shooting black zombies - OK, white dude shooting black zombies - not good, white dude shooting white zombies - OK.
Capcom realized there could be a big problem and added some white zombies to the game. Is that a right move? I don't think so. Anybody can complaint about some little thing and the gaming company will fix it? I am pretty sure the story of Resident Evil 5 will be good and will explain why the zombies are black and why Chris is in this village. And if there is a good story to back this up, I don't think there is the need to repaint some black zombies to the white ones. Zombie is just a zombie. Whether the zombie is white, black, green or purple, it's just a zombie. Like normal people - it doesn't matter if someone is black, white or yellow. We have to stop making differences among colors, whether it's about people, or zombies.
I know there are people that would argue to this and I belive them, since they might be black. I am white and I don't come from country, that experienced slavery. But overall, I think this "issue" is exaggerated. Why don't the Near East communities, who are living in US complaint about every third action - war game? Because the common enemy in those games has beard, turban, some kind of robe and AK-47 in his hand. This is the common image of the Middle Eastern "terrorist" and they are bad, m'kay?
This topic is for long, very long deep discussion and can be looked at from several points of view. I am presenting my point of view - people are constantly searching for problems in places where there are none, instead of solving real ones.
