Community Spotlight

Highlights from our community blogs, wishing we had more time to play games - and that those we do find time for donĂt waste it.

As we get older, many of us spend less time playing games than we used to, as slagathor recently found. Indeed, a quick visit to the Edge forum reveals that some of us spend more time reading about games than actually playing them, myself included. It’s not just time restraints, either: playing most games requires a degree of thought which after a long day at work I’m simply too tired to give. Given the choice between trying to pull my weight in Final Fantasy XI or kicking back and watching House, the latter will win out every time.  Meanwhile, Tom Batty has had enough of grinding, and as an MMO player, I can certainly sympathise. Super fantastic items with a very small drop rate are part of the reason people hang around on subscription-based games for so long. There isn’t really an argument in favour of this tactic in a game like Monster Hunter. Perhaps the reason for fighting monsters in Monster Hunter should be because it’s fun to do, not because you have a three per cent chance of getting that elusive plate.  To join the debate and write your own blogs, sign up to the Edge community here.
