The game industry’s busiest week of the year hasn’t disappointed in terms of announcements. With the platform holders revealing new motion sensing technology, hardware, peripherals, online features and of course, games, each of the major E3 press conferences had something to offer. That’s not to mention the announcements made by third party publishers this week.

E3. Bless. I spent much of last night watching videos from E3 (varying degrees of good) and then peering through my hands at some of the wonderful reactions and comments out there in forum land (enormous ranges of not so good).
As always, E3 will make a bit more sense in a few weeks when claim and counter claim have calmed down a bit. That said, I can't help looking forward to seeing Peripheral Wars (console wars in the extended generation years - Natal vs PSWand) and a lot of the games (Heavy Rain and Uncharted, Final Fantasies and such).
Most of all I love how big and dumb E3 is, and this one felt a little like 05 for its big 3 face-offs and bigger game announcements. With a warm and tongue in cheek feeling of sentimentality, I blogged a longer semi-rant if anyone is interested:

There were a lot of cool things and games announced at E3. All 3 had at least 1-2 big game announcements. But after doing a bit of reading, I'm happy to see that Halo: ODST is returning to Halo's roots. I know this is sorta off topic, but wanted to voice my opinion anyway. ODST seems to be fan service to fans that like Halo 1's campaign the most (myself included). The Halo 1 zoomed pistol is back (almost), fall damage is back, you can't jump 7 feet in the air (thank god), dual wielding is gone, health bars are back, and the biggest of all is the level design. Halo 1 had (in some levels anyway) a more open environment and you could do things in the order you wanted. From what I read, Halo ODST is just one massive "level" or city that you choose to move about however you want. You have a map and can place markers on it. I'm glad this game isn't just Halo 3 with a different coat of paint.
ODST is NOT my game of the show, that would go to ME2 (for 360’s game of the show only, overall game of the show I'd have to say I don't know, cause I didn't watch enough of the Sony or Nintendo's offering's to make a fair judgment).
I haven't had a chance to look at ODST yet but that sounds very good. Halo 1 did so many things better than its sequels. I never cared for the zoomed pistol but everything else was great.
Wow, I like everyone highs. Agree with most of them. It's cool to see impartial reviews like this.
Nintendo:
My Wii tends to gather bit of dust, but I really like Super Mario Galaxy. So I'm really looking forward to a sequel. I also cant wait to try out the new motion controller on Tiger Woods and EA's Tennis game.
I hope Conduit is as cool as it looks.
A new Zelda is always a good thing.
Sony:
I wish they would get out GT5. I've always liked those and didnt want to blow cash on prologue.
Uncharted 2 looks VERY promising.
Their motion controller has potential and good to see another entry in field.
God of War III. Looks fantastic
Microsoft:
Project Natal. for me this was the tech of the show. Massive potential! Now whether they can do anything fun with it remains to be seen.
Forza 3. Hard game, but fun
LFD2. First one scary as hell.....hopefully that will continue in the sequel
Alan Wake: Judging by graphics is looks fantastic.....but time will tell on that
MGS Rising don't care so much about those. not a big MGS fan.
Having played the Uncharted 2 beta let me tell you it is fantastic.
E3 is nothing more than a hardware side show. Thankfully there is some game devs and companies made it worth watching, like EA.
James Cameron talking about Avatar
Alan Wake trailer
Mass Effect 2
dragonage
kotor mmo
need for speed shift
crysis 2
It's both a hardware and software show. E3 mainly pampering to gamers of all ranges with new software and boasting statistics. Basically the gamers that don't care about the industry that much, only what comes out of it.
The big convention that is really for the hardcore and the Developers of tomorrow (me) is the Game Developers Conference. The GDC showcases new games, Indy games and they talk about new techniques in the industry, innovation and talks about the awsome games of yesterday and what may happen tomorrow. It's also a conference to ensure that the quality of developers will either not change or improve.
The Highs
Hideo Kojima, anouncing not one, but two MGS Games.
Project Natal : Specifically the "Milo" Tech Demo from Lionhead
Motion Capture Wand and Camera from Sony R&D looked pretty awesome too, I wonder if we'll have a VR headsets to go with that eventually ?
Last Guardian
Highlights from E3 for me were:
MS - Natal, Milo, Crackdown 2, Forza 3, L4D 2, Alan Wake, game download service and Perfect Dark Arcade remake.
Sony - Uncharted 2, God of War 3 and Last Guardian
Nintendo - Metroid: Other M
Third Parties - Mass Effect 2 (game of show IMO), Modern Warfare 2, Beatle's Rock Band and Assassin's Creed 2
I didn't know about Perfect Dark, thats tremendous news.
For me, the biggest things in E3 were:
- James Cameron talking about Avatar
- APB Trailer
- Fallout 3: Point Lookout
- Brink trailer and screenshots
- Alan Wake trailer
