Super Street Fighter IV debuts in fighting form while shooters rule the most popular games chart. But it's EA's FIFA World Cup 2010, another debut in the UK's top 10 selling games this week, that's commanding the greatest amount of praise, with it comprising 57 per cent of its total.

UK Sales Chart May 4

In fact, remarkably, Super Street Fighter IV is being recorded as having only 36 per cent positive. We'll check that one, especially as it has a relatively normal level of negative buzz.

Most Popular Games

Our chart of the most talked about games shows how FPS rules over all, with Modern Warfare 2 (of course), Halo: Reach (enjoying its popular beta) and newly revealed Call Of Duty: Black Ops commanding internet buzz. And if Activision dominates the top, stablemate Blizzard dominates the middle with StarCraft II and World Of Warcraft.

Every week, the Edge Games Index, produced in association with Brandwatch, rates games according to the volume of positive and negative buzz they're inspiring on the web.

Each chart allows you to rank the list by the overall quantity of buzz about each title, by the quantity of positive or negative buzz, and by the percentage of positive or negative buzz. To explain the numbers you’ll see on the charts, the number alongside the volume of responses represents the absolute number of mentions the game in question has had, while the ‘last week’ column represents a game’s position in relation to the others on the chart seven days ago.

The data is compiled by brand intelligence specialist Brandwatch. To find out how its system works, see our explanation.
