Edge Games Index

In this week's internet buzz chart, Modern Warfare 2 hits the top again.

Maybe it's due to its wins during the AIAS awards, or maybe it's the news that it won't ever feature Nazi zombies. Whatever the reason, Modern Warfare 2 has returned to claim the greatest number of mentions on the web of all the games in the UK's top ten selling games this week, having jumped 1400 up on last week's number.

BioShock 2 takes second place with over 3000 fewer mentions at 10,448, while the top selling game, Aliens Vs Predator comes in third with just 4798.

Despite Rebellion's recent claims that Aliens Vs Predator had received generally good reviews (other than "three totally shit" ones), public opinion is hardly glowing. It takes joint lowest in terms of positive mentions, at 48 per cent of its total. That's not to say that it's attracting much negative opinion, though – its 7 per cent pales against Just Dance's 16 per cent.

On the subject of negativity, BioShock 2 is the victim of 14 per cent, and it isn't attracting much positive reaction, either, with it comprising only 49 per cent of its total. Any ideas what the complaints are?

UK Chart February 22

Every week, the Edge Games Index, produced in association with Brandwatch, rates games according to the volume of positive and negative buzz they're inspiring on the web.

Each chart allows you to rank the list by the overall quantity of buzz about each title, by the quantity of positive or negative buzz, and by the percentage of positive or negative buzz. To explain the numbers you’ll see on the charts, the number alongside the volume of responses represents the absolute number of mentions the game in question has had, while the ‘last week’ column represents a game’s position in relation to the others on the chart seven days ago.

The data is compiled by brand intelligence specialist Brandwatch. To find out how its system works, see our explanation.
