Explanation of Ranking: With revenues hovering around $400 million, Infogrames generates a significant amount of revenue. However, revenue growth is stagnant while it continues to record losses. In its favor, losses have narrowed from over $200 million in FY06 to only $80 million in FY08.
Infogrames has two main subsidiaries: Atari Europe and Atari, Inc., the former a U.S. company. Unlike many companies on this list, Infogrames derives most of its revenue (over 80%) from Europe and Asia. It publishes games from Namco Bandai, such as Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi 3 and Naruto Ultimate, both for the PlayStation 2. Atari's properties in the United States include Neverwinter Nights, Godzilla and the Backyard Sports series.
Infogrames placed a substantial bet on the success of the recently-released Alone In the Dark return. Despite this big bet, Infogrames stated in its last annual report that it expected to return to profitability within the next 18 months.
We should mention the absence of a notable publisher, namely LucasArts. In the work above, we have included only publicly traded companies. While LucasArts is clearly a big player, they are a private company. Therefore, their data is not public and we have declined to speculate on their finances.
