We were hesitant to give the final position in this list to Majesco last year, as it had the market share but seemed to lack to staying power after a financially devastating 2005. The company is still in the process of reorganizing itself, but after maintaining market share for another year it’s difficult to deny the company the spot again.
Success for Majesco in the last twelve months came primarily from two titles. Jaws Unleashed represents the past of the company, as it was one of the few large-profile games to avoid the axe after the publisher repositioned itself at a casual games purveyor. The company’s other major success, the DS version of Cooking Mama, represents the company’s hope for a future where development costs and retail prices are low but sales are high.
The company is still transitioning, but products targeted at the hardcore market have already dropped out of the company’s portfolio entirely. That list is now populated by simply named DS games like Operation: Vietnam. Whether Majesco can maintain and grow its market share with such a lineup remains to be seen.
