Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)
The most cohesive answer on what John McCain’s view on videogame regulation might be comes from a blogger reporting on the Senator’s summer 2008 New Hampshire town hall meeting. In this report, McCain is paraphrased as saying that parents should be responsible for choosing what games their kids can play, and that this should be done on a case-by-case basis. According to the report, he then used the videogames question to segue into a discussion on child pornography. Still, this hesitation to regulate the industry falls in line with the traditional Republican belief in “small government.”
The McCain campaign has also toyed with the idea of using games to market its candidate. Earlier this year, the group released the Facebook-based browser game Pork Invaders, a Space Invaders clone, to introduce young voters to McCain’s desire to cut government overspending.
Like Obama, McCain is against levying additional taxes on the Internet. He is also, however, against federally regulated net neutrality, which his official website states is an “unnecessary government intrusion.” This represents a critical difference between the two candidates. The McCain campaign has stated that McCain will support efforts to crack down on the “global epidemic of piracy.” McCain also advocates expanding broadband penetration into communities that currently lack the service, a stance he shares with his opponent.

Gov. Sarah Palin
Photographic evidence of Palin’s flight sim experience aside, comparatively little is known about the governor on any political issue, let alone one as fringe at the moment as videogames. Palin was once embroiled in a non-games related book censorship scandal; as the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, in 1996, she fired (and then rehired due to public backlash) a librarian for resisting a book ban. Palin has since gone on the record stating that her talks of censorship were “rhetorical.”

hypecycle - B. Clinton leaves office: Financial Surplus - Bush leaving office: Nation Broke - McSenile will only continue the policies that have signed your kids' future to offshore bosses. Turn off Fox, dude. You just don't give the keys back to the douchebags who wrecked the car.
By the way that would be called peace no one wants us in there countrys why do u think the rest of the world hates americans were bred to beleive america is the greatest country yet were ranked 40th in healthcare 1st in the number of ppl in prison mostly bc of the failed "drug wars'' and last in education yeah this is by far the best country
You sound like you want to move...
You need to turn off the TV... the world doesn't hate us, they love us... no-one in the history of civilization has given more (look at what we're doing in Georgia (Russia) right now, where's the rest of the world? The Asian Typhoon, China earthquake, and on it goes... Every country that has a military base today wants us there...
Our health care is #1, no one goes without medical attention in America. There are something like 40 million without insurance and if you subtract the ones that refuse to buy insurance and the illegals it's under 10M (out of 350M that's not a crisis)... the rest need help but why should we tax payers pay for people who could pay and don't. You want the Gov to run healthcare? REALLY? Name on thing the Gov does / runs well? Answer = 0.
Education is the best in the world if you consider higher education... the problem with education in America is that it's run by the Gov.
@ hypecycle
Your obviously the village idiot having our troops in 90% of the world is wuts putting the country TRILLIONS in debt we obviously cant afford it were in a recession as it is all of Ron Pauls ideas follow the constitution which built this country so how does that make him an idiot Ron Paul beleives in freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of choice how are ne of these things wrong its wut America was founded on and how it should be this countrys going downhill fast and hes the only one who can save it and put it all right. The usa owes trillions of dollars to china a communist nation. America now censors our news our books our ways of thinking u obviously dont know wut yur talking about search his name on youtube and watch some videos on him youll change yur mind.
Paul is completely out of touch with modern day politics, how else can you explain his lack of appeal? And before you say Money... that won't fly, look at Huckabee!
Yes we owe too much to China but as our "banker" the last thing in the world they want is for us to default on a payment.
Yes, Paul spouts the Consitition but nothing he said is new... isolationism got us 9/11/01, no thanks...
We're not in a recession we are in a market correction and it always happens in capitalism and will happen again in the future.
Censorship? PLEASE... give an example!
About the regulation of the internet it should never be done its a ridiculous idea the fact that some ppl agree to it is just plain stupid the government controls all aspects of our lives wut we c on tv how fast we go the news the internet is a free zone where the government cant control wut we see if we allow them to take control how will we know that wut were seeing is the truth how would u like it if on google u searched somthing and bc they dont want u to see or know about it it just wasnt there?
Honestly the best presidential pick for gamers and america would without a doubt be Ron Paul he beleives in leaving the ppl alone to make there own choices true freedom check out his stuff on youtube.
I hope you're joking... Ron Paul is the village idiot and not electable... I love his idea of pulling all us forces from all global military bases, no external interaction with any country except for trade. Do you know actually how crazy that is?
Yeah I've heard that before, McCain doesn't know how to use a computer...
He seems to be on the intelligence level of George W. Bush... If that's any intelligence at all. He has flip flopped more than Obama (http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/flipflops)
Palin seems to believe in the computer science of video games but doesn't believe global warming is human caused and denies Darwinism (evolution). A total disregard for science. She wants to teach creationism in school,
I'd love to Flag this for stupidity, but there no option here...
The best Candidate for Gamers is the one that leaves us alone... That's McCain, Obama is a Socialists and is a more Government guy, that's a fact, look at his proposals, Video Games will likely be next... he belongs in the EU where someone decided that Laura Croft can't shoot a Tiger!
Talk about Bush, have you heard Obama talk without a prepared speech, "uh-uh-uh, um, like, you know..." This guy can't articulate a complete sentence... yes, as bad as Bush on that front!! O = Stuffed Shirt, there's nothing there...
Human Global Warming is the biggest money making deal since the late 90's internet craze. Look up the numbers, Carbon is the enemy and in the history of the civilized world we've contributed something like less than 4% growth... at this rebate even with China, we'll have a serious problem at about 2700... and you call Bush (Yale Law Degree) stupid?
No one denies Darwin's research just that humans came from Rocks. If you can explain (Science can't) how you get life from rocks, I'd like to hear it?! Oh know... teach Creationism as a theory in Schools in the US where something like 80% are Christians... and the founders of this country spoke of God's hand in everything...
McCain has stated that when is comes to computers, he "lets his wife handle that stuff..."
That is BEYOND out of touch, that is a man with one foot in the grave...
One foot in the grave... I don't think he's going anywhere for a while, just ask his Mother...
I cant beleve this article actually shows support for Net neutrality. Im a supporter of Obama in most regards to his campaign but one huge reason I supported Ron Paul was due to the fact that he was AGAINST net neutrality.
PEOPLE: Net neutrality is very bad, the name sounds nice and all but you need to look into out what it will do. We are talking about Government regulations on the internet! What happens when the government gets involved? It makes things more difficult due to red tape, and most importantly it makes things more expensive. Be ready to sign waivers for what you view on the internet when you sign a contract for your IP service.
Network neutrality is the current policy in the US, and similar common carrier agreements have been in place since the telegram. It's nothing new.
So you are ok with the gov footing you with the bill ON TOP OF your normal monthly bill to make improvements to the net's structure?
How is it the current policy? there are no government regulations in place, thats whats allowed the net to become what it is. Allowing the fed to make restrictions, or what they call make "neutral" , would hinder the growth of e-commerce and be more costly to everyone (except the telcom companies)
http://handsoff.org/blog/
Right now, internet service providers must treat all legal content equally. The incentive for telecom companies to do away with network neutrality is so that certain content providers such as Valve's Steam can be made to pay extra to ensure that their data reaches the consumer reliably. This leads to tiering in which content providers unable to pay up are going to get poor speeds. Currently, your ISP has to treat a Steam download, a Netflix streaming video, instant messaging, or any other sort of data traffic equally. There's no "gov footing" to be paid or "improvements to the net's structure" to be done because this is the way things have always worked.
As for Hands off the Internet, you can see here that it is run by telecom corporations, and it's in their best interests to paint NN in a very poor light.

Obama doesn't accept donations from lobbyists. Doug Lowenstein is a lobbyist. ESA is a trade association but when it donates money to politicians, that's considered lobbying.
It's a little sad that he was willing to donate money to Obama but he didn't know that.
The both canidates show no real stance on video games in one direction or the other imo... at least not that strongly.
However, In this article it also stated both canidate's stances on net neutrality - something that can effect onling gaming dramatically, and if the state of video games is one of your big issues, and you want to keep your online gaming experience safe, then vote for Obama.
I do like McCain saying he would crack down on piracy though. Not nearly as big of an issue, but an issue nontheless - Piracy is scaring PC game developers and making them think it's neccessary to put things like secuROM on games - something that makes PC gamers that don't pirate suffer for the pirate's sins.
I'd be willing to bet in Alaska video games are a relatively big industry, so I'll stick with Palin.
McCain knows as much about the games industry as any other 72 year old... i don't think he's our guy.
thats true, but dont most of them have no idea & just think that what they see in the papers & press is true?
id vote obama if i was a american, just thinking games & GAMES only i guess. but seeing as i aint dont think that it will have much effect on me?
We could only wish for Ron Paul...sigh, maybe in another life.
Yes, I too wish for the candidate that is insane.
are you high
As much as I love games, considering all the other failings of McCain and Palin, no sensible person should consider voting for them.
Why's that? McCain/Palin will leave us alone... Obama = More Gov. Name ONE thing the Gov. does well? Answer = 0 Why would you trust the Gov., any Gov.?
Obama.
