Ubisoft posted a loss of €37.1 million (£32 million) for the six months ending September 30 despite making savings across the board. The loss is a significant improvement on last year's €89.8 million, the publisher's balance sheet showing reductions in R&D, cost of sales and administrative expenses to deliver better-than-expected results despite a slight drop in sales revenue, which fell 4.6 per cent to €248.5 million (£213 million). RedLynx, Finnish developer of Trials HD, has been acquired by French publisher Ubisoft. The publisher has revealed its plans for Sony's upcoming portable, with six confirmed games in the pipeline: Assassin's Creed, Rayman Origins, Dungeon Hunter Alliance, Asphalt, Michael Jackson The Experience and, in news that sent a certain corner of the Edge newsdesk hurrying to investigate pre-order prices, Lumines. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said: "With its processing power, dual tactile screens and cameras, PS Vita allows creators like Ubisoft new and unique opportunities to develop innovative games We’ve got a strong and varied line-up that will offer fun and immersion to all audiences of the PS Vita.”

Assassin's Creed publisher Ubisoft is committed to bringing its major franchises to tablet devices, CEO Yves Guillemot said in an earnings call this afternoon. “The tablet market is growing fast. We have Apple and lots of other players with tablets," he said, according to CVG. "We are developing a few products around our brands. You will see games in the next few years from all of our biggest brands like Assassin's. They will be different games. They will be adapted from games in the past or specifically developed for those platforms."

French publisher Ubisoft has announced its acquisition of free-to-play developer Owlient. The studio was founded in 2005 and its horse breeding game Howrse attracts more the two million monthly active users. "We are thrilled to welcome the talented team at Owlient to Ubisoft," says Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. "Over the last five years they have developed an architecture dedicated to delivering and monetizing games as a service, as well as the skills of attracting and retaining online communities.” Guillemot also points out that the company intends to accelerate its free-to-play strategy following last year's launches of Settlers Online, CSI Crime City and Heroes Kingdoms, as well as the recent beta launch of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online. The acquisition is the latest step in Ubisoft's drive to expand its online expertise and infrastructure, which has seen it buy up Massive Entertainment, Nadeo and middleware company Quazal in previous years.

As well as its Assassin's Creed, Raving Rabbids and Ghost Recon franchises, it will be creating two new IPs for Nintendo's new console, one exclusive, a "revolutionary" firstperson shooter for the "hardcore audience" and a multi-sports family game. “Nintendo is an industry reference for game design and accessibility. We are very honored to be a strong part of this new chapter of the videogame industry,” says Yves Guillemot.
