Otherwise known as the g.man bemoans the state of Subaru while Unlikely desperately tries to convince everyone that old Alfas aren't terrible thread.
One for g to get his teeth into. A rendering of next year's WRX STI:

Looks better than the last one. My rx-8 is still going strong, doing about 12mpg.
I've finally pulled my finger out and am getting my license.
I've just never needed it so that's why I've not bothered before.
Guns, drugs, hookers and no pants.
Get a Saxo quick
looks like a focus. My current car is a scooter.

I need to learn.
I've looked up insurance which was like £3K for a Citroen C5. I might try again with my mums address. Less crime round there.
Also I am thinking of doing one of those week-away courses combined with the advanced license, pass plus, I think its callsd. Are these intensive course good value for money does anyone know?
The only thing pass plus is useful for is getting insurance discounts, but check online to see if it would make much difference. As for insurance, there's no getting round it, it's best to start from the bottom and build up a no claims bonus. Buy an old Ka or Yaris and insure it third party to get started.
Ive put down the deposit on a new X3. There is a worldwide shortage so wont arrive until Jan or Feb next year.
Of X3s? Same is true of VW Tiguans. The other half wants an SUV to replace her Legacy Tourer and doesn't want a Forester because she doesn't like the middle seat belt (yes, I said "WTF?" as well). Personally, I'm pushing her to a Mazda CX7. The only SUV I think looks good.
not sure what you mean "Of X3s"
Worldwide shortage.....of X3s? It always seems to be the German manufacturers that get caught out like this. I take it they try and keep numbers low to keep demand high?
Clocked a Ka cabriolet today. Its ugly but I guess I've not got much choice.so any opinions on value of intensive one courses?
Lol @ X3. And indeed SUVs in general. Get a grip.
I've gotten my New (the new, new 06 model onward) mini cooper up to just over 41 mpg on my regular commute.. The 6 speed box is so sweet to used and it cruises at just over 50mph at barely 2000 revs. Combined with a lovely little MP3 socket that plays back my iPod brilliantly I might have found my new favourite car.
I got 25mpg on my last tank in the Subaru. This was an achievement! Mind you, I also annoyed a smug prat in a 911 Turbo. This was also an achievement.
Hey Ali, who are you using for Car Insurance these days? Just got my renewal quote in from elephant. Badgers have gone up from about £700 last year to just over a grand for the coming year. Fook that for a game of soldiers!
In other news, my scooby is finally going in for repair next week. Amazing how long these things drag on for when there's multiple companies involved in a claim. The estimate from Halley's came in at just over a grand, so thank the lord her mob have admitted liability.

The engine warning light came on in my S2000. I phoned a couple of garages and one of them basically told me to ignore it so I did. It went away. Then it came back on when I was driving back from Ballater yesterday. I should probably get it looked at.
In other news, due to leaving my old job I had to put the hardtop on yesterday (it was being stored in a little partitioned off area I'd made in the office) and it's the warmest most beautiful it's been so far this year. FUCKPISH.
wtf paragraphs don't work??
I just flagged my last post as offensive lol
Have you been using it for a lot of short runs recently Unlikely?
Any reasonable garage should be able to hook it up to a diagnostic machine to tell you what's wrong.
You know, once I zoom this page in a bit, this is heading towards not hurting my eyes.
Bob, yar, I'll take it in to the Honda garage next week (assuming it doesn't implode in the meantime). It was suggested that if it's running fine then it's probably not a big deal. It is running fine but I'm absolutely going to get it looked at. NEW PARAGRAPH. It was almost exactly a year to the day since I bought it when the light came on, so that's like WAY more trouble-free ownership than the Alfa or FTO, like.
@ g. I'm with Admiral this year. Think it was £360 for the year, but I change every year as they always ramp it up spectacularly in the second year. As for the repairs, I think it's the parts supply issue as well. The wife's Legacy got hit around the same time as yours and needed a new door skin It only just got repaired last week. Nobles did a decent job, thankfully.
@Unlikely. Honda warning lights are hilarious. I owned various VTis and Type Rs over an 8 year period and they always randomly flashed warning lights. Usually means a gubbed sensor rather than anything more serious. S2000 engines are pretty much bombproof as long as they're serviced and the oil kept topped up.
@ZMM. 12 mpg from an RX8 is a wee bit low!!! Does it feel down on power and becoming difficult to start? They're really prone to faulty catalysts and that often causes a notable reduction in mpg. The worst either of mine gave was 18mpg!
Fecking paragraph pish.
Cheers Ali. I'm obviously still going to get it checked just to be safe.
I still have to drive an Astra Estate, so I'll hear no fucking complaining in here thank you.
apparently the reason for the shortage was that no one liked the old x3, it got slates for loads of reasons including the shit ride.
When it came to releasing the new version the guy in charge of ordering them ordered the same amount as last time. Thing is, because they've fixed everything its now a brilliant car so they're flying out of the showroom (so to speak).
Could all be pish and just a publicity thing, admittedly i know hardly anything about cars other than how to drive them.
@Ali. Thanks mate. I'll check them for a quote next week. Frightening how much extra they slap on when you tell them you work in television. ITF!

I'm still amazed I don't get hammered given that my profession is very good at wrecking cars!
@mariokart64: Wouldn't have thought BMW would want that known as their dealers will now be full of the pish X3s as trade ins! got to shift them somehow!
Ha ha. We're looking at a 5 year old Ford Galaxy and a 3 y/o Kia Sedona at the moment.
Living the dream ;)
Try a Mazda 5 as well. There a much better drive. If you don't need the huge size of the Galaxy, do try an S-Max as well.
I'm very tempted to buy a Corsa VXR..... Jut fancy something a bit tacky and mental? Used to work for Lotus and Aston Martin, nothing really has ever topped that for fun days out scary the living shit-bags out of people on test drives.
