In which we can pool our collective geek and talk about our favourite writers, artists, comics (or graphic novels if you’re ashamed of talking about comics), superheroes, anti-heroes, villains, disturbing manga and plain old funny-strips.
I’m a huge fan of Grant Morrison, even though he can’t satisfyingly finish a story-arc to save himself and pretty much all of his creator-owned titles (and some of his mainstream stuff) all seems to tell the same story. Loved The Invisibles (which got me back into comics), Filth, his run on Doom Patrol, Animal Man, 7 Soldiers of Victory, JLA, his Batman stuff and All Star Superman.
The Walking Dead is everything I’ve always wanted in zombie fiction and gets better and better with every issue (although because I bought the hardcovers I’m bound by my own OCD to only buy them, so am behind with current events).
Other brilliant stuff includes Watchmen, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Sin City, 100 Bullets, Y: The Last Man, Preacher, Transmetropolitan and The Boys to name but a few.
What I haven’t really gotten into is Marvel stuff. So, can the forum recommend any good title or collections? I’m looking for something in The Avengers, if you can.

Because of the state of this place, we've all buggered off to www.thebearandbadger.co.uk - come and have a look around!

I don't really have anything to say at the moment other than that I move into my new house at the end of the month and can finally, after almost five years, unpack my five boxes of comics and get reading. It's been so long I can't even remember what I have. Can't wait!
The current Avengers stuff is pretty good. I get Spider-man, which I'd recommend to anyone. Thor is pretty interesting, given that he's just resurrected Loki, despite him being responsible for the fall of Asgard. There are 2 books going, the original one has reverted to Journey into Mystery and is written by Kieren Gillen, and a new one The Mighty Thor has recently started with Matt Fraction at the helm. I can't stand Iron Man, but apparently that's been good
Away from the Avengers, X Factor is a cracking title, and should you want to bother yourself with trying to remember who everyone is, Uncanny X-Men has been interesting of late. There are other offshoots that I can't remember the titles of that have been worth reading.
My favourite non-Avengers title has to be Deadpool though.
You must read 'Red Son'. It's very good.
After being recommended red son I have to say I was a little disappointed.
Recently I've been lent the first three books of sandman which I've really enjoyed.
Sandman is excellent. Red Son was ok, but still better than the majority of stuff by the hugely over-rated Mark Millar.
But Red Son had batman in a warm hat! Never read Sand man. 'Joker's good and very grim.
Gremill, if you're looking for Marvel books I'd recommend you take a look at the Punisher books written by Ennis.
Recently I re-read all the Powers books which are pretty good too.
Any word yet on when Book 7 of The Walking Dead is out?

does anyone care for the likes of moebius or bilal??
With regards to the Punisher, there is a re-launch coming in August I believe.
I didn't know there was a Punisher relaunch in the works. I might check it out - though I stopped reading Punisher when Ennis finished his run on it. It just seemed like the subsequent writers (of the few I read) were trying to write it as Ennis. Which frankly was never going to work.
Greg Rucka is writing the new Punisher, if that's of interest to you.
@Adored, the walking dead hardbooks usually come out around October. They have been known to be delayed though so could be anytime after that really.

Yes, I care. Very much.
Already read the Ennis run in Punisher. It was awesome.
In the end, I've bought X-Men: Complete Age of Apoclaypse, Batman & Robin (Morrison & Quitely) and JLA Deluxe Vol 1.
Last night I read The Long Halloween. Pretty good. It did what I find most do at times in that it jumped from scene to scene without a clear transition so I was left flicking back through pages a couple of times to try see what I'd missed. I may just be thick mind you, or just not used to reading comics. Only ever read one before. I also have a DareDevil one which I've heard is pretty good. Prob won't get into that til I get home in a week's time though.
Batman and Robin is fucking awesome fyi.
I've been loving The Mighty Thor (no jokes, ok?). It's just finished the first story arc, with a new story beginning in issue 7. Venom has also been great fun, but you may have to dig around for some back issues to get up to speed.

Currently re-reading Marshall Law Fear and Loathing. I haven't read a comic book or graphic novel in well over a decade and thought I'd give this a go again with a view to getting the rest.
I can't recommend this enough. Pat Mills and Kev O'Neil have always been a favourite team of mine 'cause of Nemesis The Warlock in 2000AD.
Anyone read the other collections in this series? Worth picking up?
"Hate Filled Poster"
I have them somewhere in my parents loft. Entertaining enough, but don't pay over the odds for them.
Seem to recall so. Went through the scans a couple years ago.
Anyone read Jonah Hex or the new Batman & Robin by Grant Morrison? I'd be interested to hear anyone's feedback or recommendations, good or bad.
I've been reading Y: The Last Man recently (just finished book 4) but it's not really grabbing me so just looking for something new to get into. I'm sure I'll go back to Y but maybe just need something to break it up a bit.
I got an email from Amazon telling me that new Frank Miller thing has 25% off. No idea if the book, or the offer is any good mind you but thought I'd share.
I quite like this project.
It's extremely good, in my humble.
re: The Punnisher.
His new series is brilliant. The Punisher himself doesn't speak for thee issues, he just turns up and destroys shit. The story being carried in his absence by a strong supporting cast. Great concept.
^agree
also marvel fear itself thingies i like to read
sandman ofcourse
Who's writing it?
Also, although its not a comic, I just watched the 'cancellation' episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Kids superhero television, to my knowledge, has never really managed 4th-wall breaking narrative deconstruction on this scale or, well, ever. Fucking brilliance.
Bugul will know what I'm talking about, even if no-one else does.
Thread read fail. But thanks for reposting. I'm going to pick up some new stuff this weekend so will include this. I'm in need of a some great new Batman stories after the whole RIP thing.
I follows on directly from Batman RIP and you might also want too pick up 'Battle for the Cowl', which is also pretty good.
