Another Boardgame thread to get lightly used and absused
Everyone who has a solid group of friends go and buy Space Alert which is one of the most fun experiences i've ever had, Elm can probably wax lyrical about it far more coherently than me as I often ended up firing wildily into space at the remains of long dead enemies more often than actually performing any actions of merit.
Also the horrible industrial chaos that is Games Workshop has drained yet more essence from its wizened old cow and released 'Dreadfleet' which seems to be, for all intents and purposes, a rebrand of that grand old game 'Man 'o War' which since a young age I've always wanted a turn on.
Feel free to post any other recommendations, Rock Paper Shotgun do a great weekly column on the new meat too.

Thread title win
I used to like Man o' War. It was a slightly more streamlined and less fiddly version of most of the GW stuff. Not got too much interest in putting in the effort required to try a new version though.
Still, +1 for excellent thread titling.
Hey Guys,
Does anyone want my copy of Carcassone? It's boxed - been played half a dozen times and is in great condition.
I don't want any cash for it outside of the money to ship the thing.
Let me know.
Did anyone take photos of our Space Alert sessions?
We all live here now. Come to The Bear & Badger!
Contribute!Yes.
We all live here now. Come to The Bear & Badger!
Contribute!I don't think so. Tell us about the time where I tripped up and then we forgot to activate the screensaver so the Alien matured and ate all the crew despite you and Wookie dealing with all the external threats.
I think you summed it up quite nicely.
For those interested, the computer on the Space Alert ship's a bit dodgy, and needs someone to literally "wiggle the mouse" once every phase of the game in order to stop the screensaver popping on. If the screensaver does pop on, then you end up with a delay in everyone's next turn while the computer slowly starts up again, reactivates the doors, lifts, weapon systems, energy transfer system etc.
So we forgot to do that, so while Tempy was planning on bravely heading up the gravolift with his squad of battlebots to kill the rapidly maturing alien while Wookie and I manned the reactor and the cannons respectively to take out the rapidly advancing Nebula Crab, he actually found the lift jammed as the computer woke up, so the alien escaped.
Each threat has a "trajectory" that its counter moves along to show when it does certain actions. The trajectories are random lengths and have squares where it'll commit an X or a Y action, sometimes one or 2 of each, and a Z action when it gets to the end. The alien's X action was "grows up," Y was "does 2 points of damage and injures any crew in its section," then Z was "takes over ship and kills everyone."
It got to Z :(

Contribute! There we go. Not our game but gives you an idea! I wonder if you can get bespoke sets of the pieces?
It's going to cost me to fly Tempy & Wookie out to Vegas to play this. You'll both be disappointed when you're kept locked in our house as board game slaves, rather than hitting the casinos.

Contribute!Wow, I just found some fan stuff on the internet, including a flash-based random mission generator!!
Here you go. It'll play the planned, scripted mission files for you, or generate a random missile, with some cute graphics. Makes it look much more like a computer. Check it out.
Also, for Star Trek fans, there's a Star Trek themed mission pack with appropriate voices and music.

Contribute!OMG BADGES
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE.

The expansion allows you to run a character, and gain ACHIEVEMENTS:
There's a whole levelling up thing too:
We all live here now. Come to The Bear & Badger!
Contribute!But you're leaving too....
Send me £10 via paypal and i'll mail it out by the end of the week.
Wait, RED THREATS. WTAF are they, Hand picked Rape Commandos??
Also, consent to be cloned, lul.
Yeah, if you don't consent to be cloned, you gain experience faster, but you can get killed if you fail a mission. Cloning consent allows you to stay alive.
For you:

Contribute! No probs. When do you head out? I might get you to mail it to our place in the US, but I guess you want rid of it before you move?

Contribute!Such a beautiful game.
Every crew needs to know who goes first, hell yes.
Security Officer Tempy reporting for duty! Threat report: WE'RE GOING TO DIE IN SPACE.
Yeah, I don't really have the space to in my bags - all my stuff (except my airplane baggage) was shipped via FedEx yesterday - so it's too late for that.
I leave on Sunday.
I've recently been loving the crap out of Chaos in the Old World and Blood Bowl: Team Manager.
Skaven are totally the best team.

What. Is. This. Game?!
your mouth a little tomato sauce
I have no idea.
But the Kai Lord in me wants to play this ,badly.
By the looks of it, they're custom models for Warhammer.

Currently trying to play: FIFA 12, Virtua Tennis 4, Uncharted 3 MP, Portal 2, Naruto: UNS2, Nier, Ico & SotC HD, Child of Eden, House of the Dead: Overkill EC, Alpha Protocol.
Current game of win is Pandemic where you team up with 3 buddies to stop the indefatiguable flow of disease across the world.
A little too easy with only two players though.
+1
Boardgames what I have mostly been playing (and enjoying) recently:
Chaos in the Old World
Blood Bowl: Team Manager.
Curse you, Fantasy Flight games.

Huh, seems I've been playing the same games for a long ass time.

It now appears that there is a boardgame that is thematically based on The Thing. It contains a 'traitor mechanic' which pops up in a few games these days, but essentially one player plays the infected and his job is to infect everyone else.
This is absolutely awesome but as with most games the pain of getting 4 people in a room together for 2 hours is an absolute pain at best.
I would play this.

Looking forward to Risk and Settlers of Catan at Christmas with club sarnies! If anybody knows games along those lines let me know. Thought about buying some of the expansion sets for Settlers, like Cities & Knights but open to other things too. Might buy one and bring it down for Christmas.
Catan's good if you haven't played it.
Nothing like a bit of strategy board gaming and massive turkey sarnies at christmas!

Ticket to RIde has some of the empire/route building of Catan but you can play with as low as 2 players There's an XBLA version you can try.
I keep meaning to buy Power Grid but never get round to it. I'd quite like Steam as well but rarely have enough players.

An extremely good card/board game about mob warfare. You have to be prepared to stitch your mates up though, it doesn't work if everyone is too nice :)
Some random people playing
Some of the cards were awesome, St Valentines Day Massacre kills everyone on the wall, Take it on the lam removes a mobster from the wall.
The mobs, I think there were 12 mobsters per gang
There's been a few designs but this is the one I've got and definitely the best.
