In the spirit of my new Pet Shop Boys T-Shirt today I'm listening to Yes which is their best album in years. I'm also listening to the Open's debut album. Here's a little taster.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKjx_WzrQZw
Still loving the new Bon Iver album. Listening to Metronomy whilst walking on the promenade in Brighton just made sense, what with all the seagulls and organ sounds on the album.
I listened to Porcupine Tree on the way to uni. It can grate at times and it's awfully serious, but when you're in the mood for some hefty prog noodling, it hits the spot.

I can't enough of Shellac at the moment. I bought 1000 Hurts when it first came out because I had only just got into using the internet then and being able to easily find obscure John Peel-approved-of records was new and exciting to me but, to be honest, I was never quite there with the album until I started sorting through my vinyl the other week and it was a revelation. I've been listening to the well-known Albini-engineered works for years (In Utero, Surfer Rosa, Pod) and got what all the fuss was about, but his own band's recordings have an intensity and purity of their own (although Nina Nastasia also has it at the opposite end of the musical spectrum in her acoustic-based loveliness which nonetheless still has that drum sound pounding in your chest). Excellent Italian Greyhound is just as great as 1000 Hurts; Terraform next.
@krs I forget just how much stuff Albini has had a hand in production wise. A track came up on my random MP3 player the other day and I was hearing it as 'that Albini sound' before I could identify it as the Wedding Present. I might have to have a skim through my collection and see what else I can pick out.
@Stopharage: At least someone else is listening to The English Riviera, still think it's the best of the 'summer' albums that have come out so far.Hopefully when I get home i'll have Suck It and See and Smother waiting for me by Arctic Monkeys and Wild Beasts respectivey, otherwise it'll just be Gloss Drop by Battles again.
Hospice by The Antlers, We Were Dead Before The Ship Evan Sank by Modest Mouse, and Fucked Up Friends by Tobacco are what I've been listening to lately.
Reg, that's brilliant. Had a good old listen to that. Some of my favourite artists are from Scandinavia. Do you know if there's a decent equivalent for Norwegian artists?
Next weekend there's a free electronic music festival being held in Cairo with Mouse on Mars headlining. I'm pretty excited, it's the only decent gig I'm aware of happening since I got here. No idea about the rest of the line up. Anyone heard of any of these guys and want to give me some idea of what to expect?
Yoss, Jackson and... are pretty decent. They were on Warp a while back and are a harder version of Daft Punk. You might have heard Utopia by them as it has featured on a fair few compilation/mix albums. Uses quite a bit of sampling on their music. Hungover so lost for a more eloquent or accurate description.
The new Battles album is pretty good, getting a fair few listens. It trails off towards the end and isn't as inventive as the original Ice Cream is the Best thing on there, followed by My Machines (drums at the end are brilliant)
Suck It And See is hogging my playlists mainly though, I've always thought they had interesting music in them and they've proven it with this album which takes all the best bits of the last album (Corner Stone and Crying Lightning) and plays a good mix of straightforward piledriver rock and smart acoustic balladry. Turner's voice keeps getting better and better too.
I quite like Humbug actually, but I think they were trying to fit themselves into a mold that they had made for themselves and it was a mistep. There are some good tracks, go back and listen to Cornerstone and it's pretty much the pinnacle of what they're about and this new album continues that trend.
@ Stoph, thanks for that. That was pretty good. I'm getting more excited about this gig by the minute. Having said that, it'll be pretty weird if it is, as I expect, going to be dry. Alcohol and live music have always been a good mix. On the other hand, I'll probably be able to get away with getting stoned off my box in there, which will help make up for it.
I'm listening to Neon Neon 'Stainless Style' (a concept album about the Delorean), Frightened Rabbit 'The Midnight Organ Fight', Helms Alee 'Night Terror' and And So I Watch You From Afar 'Gangs'. Converge 'Axe To Fall' also got me through the website redesign crunch!
not really feeling Suck it and See. Not keen on Alex Turner's new singing voice and all the tunes sound the same. Apart from the two rockier numbers. It lacks some energy.

Less than a day in and first double post.
May as well be productive - Antony David's album is very reasonable too.
Turtleneck and Chain, the new Lonely Island album.
Here's a video to Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie and Clyde. It's been stuck in my head for a while now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_W_xLWtNa0

Lykke Li album got me through my cycle commutes today.
It's good.
The new Lykke Li album is really really good. It gets better with each listen.
Not heard the Battles album yet Tempy. Decent?
Lykke Li album so much better than her first.
Hospice by The Antlers, We Were Dead Before The Ship Evan Sank by Modest Mouse, and Fucked Up Friends by Tobacco are what I've been listening to lately.
All absolutely superb albums.

Favourite Worst Nightmare kind of proved that.
I just hope it's better than their last one, which was a bland hommeogenised pile of crap.
Yeah the last one was a big disappointment.

krs, I've seen Shellac a couple of times. They are brilliant live.
Finally got round to listening to Metronomy. I like them. Sound like The Concretes.
