My wife's teenage daughter (my step daughter) although not officially 'out' apparently likes girls. Fair enough most might think, but to me, this isn't something that she really feels it's actually fashionable in her social circle and seemingly amongst girls her age to be gay.
She's going through a big emo phase at the moment so it's most likely a by product of that. But since when has the whole idea of sexual identity been so trivialised that now people just claim it because everyone else does? Is going gay by peer pressure the new smoking?
I have nothing wrong with it if she genuinely is that way inclined, but knowing her and her social circle it isn't the case.

Sexuality has no real meaning outside of social groups anyway. So let her at it.
Why does it actually matter? If she's not gay, then she'll realise it and move on. If she is, then she's managed to come out in the rare circumstances of being surrounded by friends who are supportive. Meanwhile you have the bonus of not having to worry about her coming home and announcing she's pregnant. Sounds like a win all round.
(I confess I'm slightly doubtful of the notion that sexual identity is "trivialised". I suspect she thinks it's massively significant, whether this is her true sexuality, or just a bit of confused teenage experimentation...)
It was certainly the in thing to be a bisexual emo when I was at school and I doubt much has changed. Goes with the laboured uniqueness that they all aspire to, and it'll do her bugger all harm.
Titter.
Seriously, though, girls were claiming to be gay when I was at school, fifteen years ago. It's an easy enough way to seem interesting and a quick and easy way to tell a boy he's got no chance. Or, you know, she might be a lesbian.
How's her ironing?

What's this about buggering lesbians
A very close straight female friend of mine quite recently hooked up with her female (openly les) flatmate. This came after a string of disastrous relationships with guys, the most recent being borderline abusive.
I know this girl very well (not in the Biblical sense), and this is a major, major change for her - and very much 'out of character' from the girl I knew. This certainly coincides with her becoming part of very different, shall we say more 'bohemian', social group.
It concerns me quite a bit actually, but only in the sense that she's been displaying a lot a-typical behaviour recently. But yeah, it's seems very much social group related.
Well at least this way you won't have to pay for an abortion.
This is what I mean. I have nothing against a genuine choice of gay/straight, but doing it because of social pressure and that it's 'cool' to be gay strikes me as disingenuous.
Why not do it because it's right for you?

Because teenagers.
She'll change her mind when she meets a genuine, old-skool dungeree's and DM's lesbian.
Maybe doing what her social group is doing is right for her. Everybody makes their choices within a social framework to some extent and particularly so with expression of sexuality. I'm not sure there's any big problem with experimenting with sexuality anyway and I don't understand why some people treat it as if some kind of sacred thing that we mustn't mess with. Try what you want and keep doing what makes you happy.

Asexual's cooler.
Unless you live in the American South.
Pansexual.
Mansexual. Um..
I'm a retrosexual. Hairy plumpers do me good,
Especially when they don't wear ties.
I thought Kow was about to come out there.
Hopes dashed yet again.
Come out where?

This.

Either way, don't reckon it's a big deal, in the sense that it sounds like a good situation to experimenting in, rather than an openly hostile one.
I wish I had experimented with lesbianism when I was younger.
Big Brother?
My best friend is a bisexual lass who's engaged to a guy and getting married this year. It's nice to have a female friend who I can still be pervy infront of and discuss the appeal of a waitress with.
Wait a few years and you'll know. If she doesn't tip in restaurants, she's a genuine, full on muff diver.
Opposite applies to gay men.
I'm a habanerosexual. It's a fucking painful existence but the sex is pretty hot.
Wot Face, Kow, Tempest said. As long as everyone's enjoying themselves/sorting through the mire of adolescence, jolly good.
