So, Tim Schafer and his Studio Double Fine have launched a Kick Starter project and asked people to donate so they can make a new game.

It appears they wanted $400,000, and they're currently on their way to $500,000. More money means more funds to develop for more platforms.
A good idea? Seems like it to me, people will feel more of a connection with the game itself and they helped get it made.
I notice Amy Hennig of Naughty Dog was one of the donators on Twitter.

Been observing on Twitter. Good on em. Alternative funding models are rather needed and crowd sourcing seems to be gaining in popularity. Worked (kinda) for the makers of the The Tunnel film, which was great.

Sounds a grand idea. I'm not going to donate because years of being accosted by student chuggers on the high street has destroyed my opinion of charity but the documentary sounds cool.
The most interesting part i'm sure would be actually seeing Tim (or whoever) discuss publishing rights with EA and others, i'd like to see how much they go for. But I doubt we'd see the juicy bits.
It's a pretty interesting development. The game is to be point 'n' click, right? Given the lack of commercial prospects for such a title, crowd sourcing is a really good idea.

Fuck me.
I'll chuck some at it tomorrow. Sounds like things are looking up for Double Fine.
Great idea, but fucking fuck Schafer.

I...probably would...
Indeed.
As in the pejorative reading of "fuck"
I don't like him.
You're a good man, Brooks.

It's hit $900,000. Jesus fucking fuck
There is a point and click (none of that hidden object shite) being released at Game tomorrow, and Double Fine will raise over a million dollars to make one themselves. What the fuck is happening to the world? I mean I like it, but I'm confused.
So, I'm thinking of using KickStarter for our next project so if you'd all like to chip in... our budget is a mere $10million. Yes?

I think I would dole an Internet coin (not a bitcoin either lol) to a team intending to make a Power Stone 3 or some other update to an IP I already like.
About to say the same thing. I'd give Tim $$ for a new psychnaughts. (I can never spell that fucking word.)
Heck, I'd give the hawken dudes cash for a console version.
I'd give someone else money for a new panzer dragoon of some sort.
They probably don't need it, but I'd give From some cash, straight up, for whatever they want to do next.
I would also give a fair chunk of cash to see an XBLA release of Phantom Dust.
Lord it over these dev fools inna Medici steez respect tha bitch your patron
In all seriousness I'd throw a small sum your way if you were to go down that path.
Don't make a point and click adventure, Schafer. Make Shenmue 3.
$15 for a game that not only doesn't exist, about which there are no details beyond "point and click", and which could easily turn out to be a turd?
What am I missing?
Additional money means it can appear on more platforms, be translated into more languages, have more music and voice, and an original soundtrack for the documentary, and more! Woo!
There is a point and click out tomorrow? What game is it?
How many nerds does it take to click the BULB icon over the SOCKET scenery label
$1.2m now. That documentary they are making is going to be AWESOME.
What is this fucking point and click being released today? Its not Catherine is it?
Impressive. With this amount of cash, I presume we can look forward to a Mac version. I'll certainly pick that up.
Now, how about a Kickstarter fund for Streets of Rage 4?
If Yu Suzuki wants to form a company to make ChenMoo or any other spiritual successor, or anything else, I've got $100 that says "yes you can" on it.
Gemini Rue. Research reveals it came out a year ago, but still, a disc based release making it out at all, let alone after that long is impressive. Sorely tempted.
Ah, its THAT game! YES! I looked at this the other month but didnt have the Columbo in me to look on Steam and on the official website it was £15. £7 on Steam. Probably an almost immediate buy.
Fantastic to all of this. Makes me happy.
Fine work, Schafer.
Well done, Colin.
He's fucking shit compared to Dubs and me.
