E3 Hype Train. All aboard, I guess...

The-Ageli's picture

So by my watch it's 5 days until the brilliant E3 conferencing begins (no, we're not including tomorrow's Konami conference ¬¬). E3 of course the annual event providing us with some of the best and biggest announcements in gaming, coupled with some excellent demos, hardware showings and more. And this E3 promises to provide a lot of that. Sony are showing off it's true first-party guns with the likes of Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, Twisted Metal and The Last Guardian while reinvigorating it's portable market with the NGP...or is it Vita?
While the likes of Nintendo are assumably going to be showing off their bevvy of 3D content, the Zelda shrouded in mystery, Skyward Sword and of course the all-rumoured all-anticipated Project Café. Is it going to have a touch screen controller? Will it be in HD? Can it run Crysis on Max??!! All these important questions will be answered.
And finally, Microsoft. A conference shrouded in mystery. Gears of War is a dead cert, but what of the likes of Halo? Kinect? If those stickers are rumoured to be 'real', then could we be seeing a heavy third party presence to make up for the lack of first party?
And of course EA and Ubisoft will tag along with the likes of Battlefield, Rayman Origins, Splinter Cell, Mass Effect 3 and more. And so, E3 is looking insanely awesome from this perspective. What to expect? What to see? The excitement is unbearable.
Konami - Friday 3rd June, 1:00am
Microsoft - Monday 6th June, 5:00pm
EA - Monday 6th June, 8:30pm
Ubisoft - Monday 6th June, 10:30pm
Sony - Tuesday 7th June, 1:00am
Nintendo - Tuesday 7th June, 5:00pm

How do they decide who goes first/second/third? Surely its an advantage to go last because you can see where everyone else has gone wrong and instant feedback online?

I'm not sure how they decide it but Sony's was delayed this year!

Well looking forward to the Cafe stuff, it had so better be more than just revealing a little black box that when stacked is as big as 3 DVD cases?!

I hope that loon turns up at the Sony conference delivering cans of cola again.

Mod74's picture

Looking forward to it.

Why did I think E3 was in August?

Anyway, Nintendo's the big one this year, unless Sony have something spectacular up their sleeves to make up fo the absolute arse they've made of eveything over the last couple of months.

Jon B's picture

I suppose it's time for some big announcements from all the console co.s, even if there's nothing concrete to show. There's a feeling of treading water ATM, and even though I've no desire for new hardware personally, revealing new installments of the current tired franchises ain't gonna cut it.

MattyJ's picture

I think there is a good chance this will be a very good E3. There is potential for some big announcements from Microsoft and definitely from Nintendo with their new console. The Sony one should be interesting to see if they actually talk about the hacking and all that.

Unless MS announce a new console, can't see there being anythign very interesting coming from them, just a lot of plugging Kinect. Sony would be advised to get their bloody Welcome Back freebies sorted before their conference so they can move on. Confirmation of definite release dates for U3 and Trico would do me from them tbh, I really couldn't care less about another Twisted Metal trailer or whatever multi-platfom shite they intend to pad things out with. I just hope Nintendo can persuade me to buy their new console, I feel bad about missing out on Marion Galaxy, but even at £50 in Game I couldn't bring myself to buy a wii.

I can't muster even the tiniest bit of excitement for E3. I'll probably be observing it through the OldForum lens so i'll come away with a heavily distorted perspective of the event, constructed of jokes and screengrabs with captions.
It's better that way.

You never know with MS, they could just announce a new console for all we know. The redesigned 360 was a bit of a surprise, especially as it was shipping to stores when they announced it!

Doubt I could even get excited about that, with releases looming in the distance I wouldn't want a new console threatening to split the online community we've got already.

Suppose they might announce it's existence just to take the shine off Nintendo's reveal. If the Project Cafe (PC?) thing isn't more powerful than the PS3 and they're relying on the new controller or Miyamoto to make it appealing to the hardcore, then the announcement of a super powerful xbox might be all they need, even it it's not going to be seen before E3 next year.

Tempy's picture

If Miyamoto comes out with a a life sized prop of an item from a Nintendo game, drink.
We need an E3 drinking game ruleset. New thread?

I always look forward to E3, but I always find myself away at work so never get to watch the conferences live. This year, for me, it's all about Skyrim and Project Cafe.

Every time Mario appears on screen at the Ninendo conference - drink.
Every time MS make a reference to how much easier it is to ask Kinect to do something or wave your arms about rather than just press a button - drink. Every time Sony say sorry...no that won't happen. Every time Sony show a game that's multi-platform and already beed shown elsewhere - drink!

I'm all up for this E3 drinking game! There is only one rule for me, everytime something is announced that is a bitter disappointment, DRINK.

to be fair thats my rule for life

Let's keep it sexy people...

Haven't Microsoft already announced that there'll be a 'Halo-related' announcement at E3? Most likely it'll be the HD remake of the original Halo which they've done such a good job of keeping under wraps rather than Halo 4. Having said that, the HD version of Halo is probably more exciting to me than another sequel anyway.

New Trials is 'rumoured' at E3 possibly OMFG.

famitsu have said something along the lines of kojima making a 'shocking' announcement ahead of e3.

retirement?

Shindig's picture

I'd like Hitman Absolution to be shown in some sort of gameplay form.

Tempy's picture

New sequel to *your* favourite game definitely 100% absolutely rumoured to be there by the tea boy at whatever website needs a couple more hits to break even on ad revenue.

Not sure what the "shocking" Kojima announcement will be. Following a tweet from last month where he was very angry claiming that his year had been wasted, perhaps retirement or defection might be an issue. It sounded like no-one was throwing any money at one of his ideas but was fuming

adored's picture

Kojima's announced Fox Engine, it's on the news section. Won;t be at E3 until next year when he's got something resembling a game (well, hours of vaguely interactive cut-scenes anyway) to show.

Looks like I'll get to watch MS's conference, but I won't see Sony's til the following day.

Really not sure if I want to watch Nintendo's

I think I'll 'watch' the MS conference via the updates on the forum.

Will be able to watch Sony's without it crashing all the time hopefully the next morning, and am really rather keen to see if Nintendo can pull it off, or if Project Cafe becomes as essential as a finger pulse monitor, or wii fucking music!!!

Sasukekun's picture

Sony's conference is apparently going to be streamed by themselves this year via the blog and also Home.

Home..........Lol.

Was hoping they'd stream it on a website that the PS3 could accomodate so I could watch it on my tv, but I'm guessing that they'll try and force people to go into home for it. Fuck downloading that shit again, never touched it since I got my slim.

Sony's will be interesting. i predict the board of directors lining up and commiting mass seppuku in atonement...and also a new ratchet and clank game
