E3 2011 Vid
After watching this, FC3 is now firmly on my radar. Nothing new or ground breaking but the promise of an exciting sp and the appreciation of what they achieved in FC2 will do it for me. Hopefully they will address the flaws of 2, namely the rapidly repopulating checkpoints. The video seems to suggest the series is harking back to to the jungle climes of FC1 after the hazy savannahs of 2, whether this means abandoning the flammable physics of 2, I can't say.
Leaping machete finish ftw!

Not sure i like the over-saturated cleanliness of it all.. actually reminds me of Crysis, and the character models look funky, and the over-moralistic utterings of the player character seem a bit.. crap, but i did like that bad guy, had some proper menace to him

That's a whole lot of tapping 'A'
Haha yeah, they said over 7 minutes of footage and a good percentage of it was tapping a, much of it underwater

I did so love 2. Must finish it one day.

I hope this one works out - Far Cry 2 was brilliant, flawed but brilliant.
I am so so excited for this one. Far Cry 2 was an absolute gem and if they can maintain that same level of immersiveness but expand the world and increase the amount of things to do in it, as well as improve the enemy AI then count me in!
Also I predict Elmlea will be pleased!
This is going to fucking RULE.

FarCry 2 is maybe the only game of this generation that i keep coming back to.. my only "problem" with it, similar to the recent GTAs, is that i cannot seem to keep to the path of the story, playing it like a sandbox instead, so that even after hundreds of hours invested, i'm still far from the end.. which is a good thing actually.. also, a bit less of perpetually respawning clones would be welcome.. looking forward to it..
I started 2 again as well. It's never held my attention, sadly. I also managed to die of malaria inside the first five minutes. Hope they don't EVER do that again.
Looks ace. Particularly liked the stealth kills and the added physicality of the player (it was already good).
That cover system looks cool too. Lovely blind fire animation there - pew pew!
He couldn't sprint for very long though, probably a combination of the malaria and incessant African sun. I never succumbed to the malaria, but I suppose if you didn't keep an eye on the level of pills this would be a problem. The game did prompt you to up your supply from various NPCs though.

Trailer looked great. Far Cry 2, got it on release and still play it. Hopefully this can capture the same sense of place that FC2 had. A maybe go easy on the respawn
actually, the malaria mechanic was not a bad idea.. poorly implemented though.. together with weapon jamming and other details it raised the level of immersion a little.. if they could afford to work more on things like that, they could change the experience (for better) and increase the overall quality of the game instead of being an annoyance..
Theres nothing stand-out in the video for me, but it looks solid. There's so many FPS out though that you need something to stand out beyond the basic hardcore audience.
Actually, there were several other things which piss me off about Far Cry 2, the more I play it.
Buddies are fucking dim. They'll show up, save you and then shoot a wall for 14 minutes. Plus I've lost count of how many times I've been ran over by a jeep. It does have a nice feel of being stealthy and hopelessly outgunned, though.
Yes, but Shinners, we've already established that you're possibly the only player to have died from malaria inside the first 5 fucking minutes.
Bang it on Easy as per, lad.

I didn'tthink it was possible. I found a way. I don't fancy sticking it on easy as the gunplay isn't my issue with it. Aside from the bulletsponge enemies. It's more how frequent it is. You can stay off the main roads but then it'll take you forever to get anywhere.
No, it won't. We've discussed this countless times. Game am not for you, play Fifa or summink.

If it's as brooding and claustrophobic and sweaty as far cry 2, im in, i love sweaty stuff, oof, but yeah not entirely convinced by that video thuis far

I'm in. FC2 was the shiz. It's the most immersive gaming experience I've ever had the good fortune to play.
this isn't going to be wholly immersive if they don't feck off with the numbers flying everywhere stuff

I really tried to love FC2, but the checkpoints just did my head in. Having to fix your jeep up was frustrating when you knew you were gonna have to do it all again in the next five minutes. Then again, I may just have been really crap at it. I liked hunting for gems, but this took alot of focus off the main storyline, to the point I hadn't a clue what was going on.
I think you really have to find a way to play to get into Far Cry 2. It's sort of clicked now that I'm spending time crawling through grass. Admittedly that buddy I left to fight that wall is now very, very, very dead which now leaves me with the guy that looks like John Terry.
When it comes to vehicles, I tend to chop and change often and use them as shields if I wind up in a jeep fight.
The checkpoints become less of a chore in FC2 when you just plough through them at full tilt, you learn to do this fairly soon when their novelty wears off.

Or skirt around them with your scope, spying out the hidden goodies inside. I've still not finished it, I can only ever play it for an hour or so because it takes a lot out of me.
Ditto. It's that kind of game where you take a mission on, saddle up, do a mission and then exhale.
Also, for an African war, there's not much war going on. African wars are fucking brutal. Where's the genocide and 'well-intended' western intervention?
Africa? I thought it was set on a Bradford housing estate, I did think the Zebras were a bit much.

Get rid of the Malaria, the insta respawn checkpoints and the x-ray vision enemy AI and Far Cry 2 would have been my vote for best game this gen. The atmosphere, the sense of actually being in the environment being rendered was incredible.
Fingers crossed that demo video we have seen from E3 is an actual demo level that we will get our hands on soon.
If they haven't sorted out that enemy x-ray vision thing though it might slip from a day one purchase to a second hand one for me.
