I admit, I quite enjoyed Final Fantasy X-2, and I really like Final Fantasy XIII.
From the looks of this trailer, I reckon I may like this too.
Good shaky cam footage of gamplay here too

So it looks like the battle system is intact, BTW huge spoiler if you didn't yet finish XIII. I will say I am interested in this more if they show us some towns.
Not a big fan of XIII but I really wish they said more about Versus at this E3. The last trailer for that looked a lot more like the kind of FF world I want to play in. FFXIII is so disappointing to me because I loved the combat system, I really think it might have been one of their best, but everything else about it just felt really messy. Story, locations, pacing, all sub par in my opinion and far too hands off in its RPG elements.

Final Fantasy XIII was all kinds of rotten. Shame, I was looking forward to it and watched the Leona Lewis My Hands trailer more than was healthy. The game was Very Bad Aids, though.
you got it working? \o/
yeah ff13 can burn

Yeah, working now but had to switch browser. This site doesn't work for me in Dolphin Hd or Opera. Basically, the two most popular android browsers, shucks.
Srsly, though, FFXIII is an STD on the cock of enjoyment.
Controversially, I enjoyed the combat in FF-XIII. I played it for two days straight during a holiday at my Dad's house with nothing better to do and it took that long for it to get interesting, which is criminal. I may finish it one day.
The art design was incredible though, really out there.
This is now the dual FFXIII and my browser update thread. I am now typing this in Opera. Win. Also, more games, and by more I mean all, should be exactly like FFXII. That game was special.
And less like FF13, which was the stinking bellcheese on a rotten badgercock, and sure imagine thats oldedge's filter working there

It's no Witcher /lol
Am I the only one whose fave FF is IX?
IX, as it happens, is the other one that really tickles my pickle. Great game.
That would be a no DJR as that's my favorite too. Wish people would clamour for a HD remake of that rather than VII.
As stated though, I liked FFXIII. But then again, compared to most FF fans I am under-experienced. I never completed VII or VIII, in fact I barely got anywhere on VII.

Oh, good. I completed IX again last year, still holds up. Definitely has the best overall characters of any FF game.
Some more info
Director Motomu Toriyama said Noel will be the game’s frontline fighter, with companion [FFXIII-ending-spoiler-name-redacted] taking a backseat support role.
Noel is said to a be a cool character, the equivalent of FFXIII’s Lightning. He’s a monster hunter from Gran Pulse. FFXIII composer Masashi Hamauzu has returned for the sequel, and aims to keep the feel of the first title, while new composers will be brought in to add new material.
Following on from comments that NPCs in towns will have AI, Toriyma revealed townsfolk will shelter from weather. Weather will also have an effect on battle. The demo from E3 is said to have been spliced together from two separate chapters, with story segments ruthlessly cut. The same section in the full game will tell the story of how the two protagonists meet.
As well as a third monster party member, players will sometimes temporarily recruit extra guest characters.

Good update, thanks Sasukekun.
I actually really enjoyed XIII, I found the fluidity of the battle system fantastic and the streamlined designs of the levels refreshing, creating a very different experience from most JRPG, where a lot of the time is spent in the menus or in pointless side-quests.
That sequel is a guaranteed day 1 purchase for me.
I agree with Fluffy. It'll probably be Day 1 purchase for me too. In Squeenix we trust.
@Sasukekun, I don't think it has to do with FF inexperience. I've played all but the first 3 on the NES, but thought FF13 was still a good game, just not as good as some others in the series. As Fluffy said, it's also just a different experience.

FFXIII was a good game IMO. I actually liked the story and the characters. The only thing I didn't like was the use of Summons/Eidolons.
Any game that has them, but makes the use of them redundant due to the fighting system is surely missing the point.

The summons were pretty redundant in 12 too, could never match the power of your party later on.
The adverts for this game on this site make everything look awful. Bright blue colourscheme + pastel pink = eye abuse.
Am I a bad person for getting bored of running down the corridor and just giving up playing FFXIII? I'm more excited about Versus XIII. I'll piss off now.
There's a lot of corridor running, but the sweeping score of Oerba and the utter gorgeousness of Orphan's Cradle made the linearity worthwhile for me.

You have a point with the soundtrack it is awesome, I have it on my iPod.
Iro no nai Sekai is the only track that has made it onto my iPod thus far.
I really should get around to listening to the whole damn thing.

The chocobo theme tune is brilliant. Never got as far as actually riding a chocobo though.
Its such a gorgeous game, but it is a GAME and i felt like i had absoloutely no involvement in the game really. I made a few decisions, ran around in circles and got annoyed. The corridor broke me. Perhaps Versus is taking so long because they ARE CREATING A GIANT WORLD (CROSSES FINGERS AND PENIS.)
I remember always thinking it was ridiculous that people defended FF13 by saying "wait until 20 hours in, then it rules!" However, they were actually right. The corridors were irritating, but the story began to pick up speed right at the end and the battle system definitely blossomed when you were given control of your party. In fact, I think FF13 actually had a wonderfully complex system, one which people didn't bother giving the time of day because it featured 'Auto-Battle' and (as mentioned previously) didn't really open up until the end of the game.
That said, i'm not too fond of the direction the sequel is going in. After completing FF13 I read through all the backstory of the game (the stuff to do with various tiers of Fal'Cie and how they were created) and found it to be pretty well written and interesting stuff. The teaser (with Lightning in armour) seemed to suggest that FF13-2 would be exploring this side of the mythos, but the new gameplay videos go against that. I'll reserve judgement for now.
Still, heres hoping Snow and Hope don't make any sort of return.
In someways the 'corridor' with the game opening up at the end kind of fits in with the narative of the game. I doubt that was intentional though.
I thought it was very logical actually:
At the beginning of the game the characters don't know each other, and the ones that do are very often in disagreement or at odds with other party member (Hope having a grudge against Snow, for example). There is no unity within the group, and the narrative reflects that. You jump from one location to another, you only play with a handfull of characters at a time which you cannot choose and there's a few flashbacks thrown in in the middle. This apparent confusion (Edge called it "a disaster in pacing") only reflects the broken structure of the relationships in the party.
Through the course of the story the characters eventually adress and resolve their issues and end up working together, and it is at that moment that the game opens up, you're in Gran Pulse, the big wide open area where you can go wherever you want and you gain full access to all members and paradigms. The party is united, there is no confusion anymore, they move as one and the gameplay and narrative reflects that.
Bearing in mind that this is a Japanese game, a country where too much individuality is frown upon, where it is synonymous with disorder, and where working as a group instead in order to achieve common goals is higly valued, the structure of the narrative makes perfect sense.
I didn't mind corridors that much too. Hell, I play shooters and the majority of them are one long big corridor after another.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series. It was announced at the "Square Enix 1st Production Department Premiere" event on January 18, 2011 and is set to be released in December 2011 in Japan and in the first quarter of 2012 in the rest of the world on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Uhhh
Thanks, Libby......

Played at Eurogamer, as expected, it looks stunning.
I managed to 5 star every fight I was in (Helps it's the very start of the game I reckon).
It has a pokemon esque pet system, with creatures you defeat in battle joining a character roster for your team, you can then assign these 'pets' to your team and your paradigm for when you fight, giving you loads of possible combinations.
I had a Chocobo and Cait Sith in two of my paradigms. All in explosive harmony.
It's looking likely to be a good game and is a definite purchase in my book.
