Position Overview: Developing a real-time embedded application on powerful custom game hardware can be a daunting task. This position exists to help our group provide developers of products for PlayStation platforms with all the expertise and support they need to deliver high-quality games on our systems, specifically with respect to graphics implementation.
Principal Duties / Responsibilities: -
- The candidate will assist licensees in maximizing the graphics capabilities of PlayStation platforms within their particular game engines. The role focuses on integration, optimization, and the explanation of new and novel techniques as they apply to the hardware.
- The candidate will undertake graphics-related projects, creating sample code or materials to demonstrate and clarify techniques for utilizing the graphics hardware.
- The candidate will contribute to the development of platform-specific graphics tools.
- The candidate will maintain an awareness of upcoming graphics-related technologies such as initiatives, protocols, techniques, and tools which directly affect the game market.
- The candidate will be expected to contribute in other areas on behalf of the group such as working to establish game policy guidelines and hardware test procedures, advising standards committees, or collaborative development of graphics-related technologies.
- The candidate will present to developers in small to large groups when needed during conferences or on-site training.
- The candidate will periodically travel to support group activities, such as visiting a development studio or to collaborate with an internal team in another location.
Required Knowledge / Skills: - This person has competent computer skills including programming in C/C++ as a primary job activity.
- Good technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are required. Knowledge of game development, and production is preferred.
- Ability to understand issues as they relate to video game development is required.
- Applicants for this particular position should have experience programming with OpenGL, DirectX, or similar graphics APIs in a production game environment.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills are required.
- Candidate must be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in a timely and professional manner with a variety of internal and external personnel in multiple channels including email, database, documentation, instant messaging, telephone, and in person.
- Internally this will include weekly/monthly reports
- Because of the multiple platforms, systems and issues involved, candidate must have excellent time, task, and resource organization skills.
Qualifications, Required Experience and Education: - Competent knowledge of graphics programming APIs such as OpenGL and DirectX.
- Graphics implementation experience on a shipped game title.
- C/C++/assembly programming skills sufficient to pass a short C/C++/assembly test.
Preferred Experience / Education: - Graphics lead on a title that shipped for a modern game console, ideally a PlayStation console.
- Experience optimizing graphics code for a specific hardware platform.
- Experience with C# in development of GUI tools.
- Working knowledge/experience of the RSX graphics processor.
