The Dark Knight stands ready on the cover of our latest issue – which is out now in print, on iPadGoogle Play and Zinio, – as Rocksteady puts the finishing touches to Arkham Knight, signalling the end its eight-year spanning Batman trilogy. We visit the studio and go hands-on with the game in our ten-page cover feature.

It’s also time for our annual awards, in which we crown the ten best games of the year and hand out plaudits for visual and audio excellence. Our alternative awards feature as well, of course, as do your moments of the generation.

With christmas fast approaching, our selection of the best videogame books, covering every facet of game design, science and culture, might just provide inspiration for a present or two. And talking of much loved institutions, in Knowledge this month we chat to Richard Garriott about his spiritual successor to Ultima, Shroud Of The Avatar.

In the section, we also investigate Square Enix’s plans for server-based game processing with Shinra, and get dramatic with Tribe Studios’ Velvet Sundown, in which you’re free to be whoever you want. Inhabiting game roles is something novelist Christopher Brookmyre is fascinated by, and the subject of his recent novel Bedlam. We speak to him about that and his favourite game of all time.

In this month’s Hype section we look at the likes of Halo 5: Guardians, Overwatch, Soma and Massive Chalice, while in our Play section we review Far Cry 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Super Smash Bros For Wii U and more.

There’s plenty more besides, of course, including your thoughts in our letters page and the stuff that caught our eye when we weren’t creating all of the above – all of which you can get hold of now in print, on iPadGoogle Play and Zinio.
