Edge’s 200th milestone issue officially goes on sale in the UK from today.
The issue features an in-depth look at the conception and birth of the industry-changing PlayStation console, as well as an interview with Trip Hawkins, who offers an inside’s account on the 3DO console.
Edge 200 also offers the uncut version of the 100 Best Games to Play Today, revealing which games leading industry figures consider their favourite, as well as an in-depth, six-page article on the game that landed at number one.
Elsewhere, Edge speaks to Sonic The Hedgehog programmer Yuji Naka, who offers his own perspective on Sega’s colourful history. Edge also interviews four of today’s key developers to ask what games will be like in 2016; the year in which Edge will publish its 300th edition.
The bicentenary issue will see 199 separate cover designs land in stores across the UK, while the 200th cover – custom designed by LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule – has been delivered exclusively to subscribers, who received their copy of the magazine at the start of the week.
North American subscribers will receive the issue some three weeks before it lands on shop shelves.

You know you can find out what is on the copy your gonna buy if you look at the back of the magazine foil cover, and in the bottom left corner it tells you, well it did for me, mine was okami
mine was okami
result! I'd be stoked with that one
Just bought two copies today. I heard they were foil covered, so took a lucky dip on 2, hoping that I'd get a favourite cover. (Later realised that it actually tells you on the back exactly what cover is inside!) Anyway I got Manhunt and Megaman - not my favourites, but nice!
I suppose the foil was necessary to make the magazines actually sell (and to mirror the first issue's packaging it says inside), since few people may pick up and buy a magazine with a massive green pixel Bub on the front (why not?). But it would have been bold and interesting to just see the covers as they are. It would surely have turned heads amongst magazine buyers when they saw a magazine with a giant pixellated Dizzy on the cover, stood next to Killzone and Halo Wars. Though I suppose it could have confused people into thinking there was a new Dizzy game out. I would have just loved something like Streets Of Rage to be on a newagents face out, in 2009, surely pulling expressions of glee and confusion alike from shoppers.
Looks a really good issue anyway. The extracts from the Story Of Lucasarts book are a pleasant surprise, since I was contemplating buying that book. The Yuji Naka interview also looks interesting having just perused the first few questions. Lots of good stuff to read, and I've not even looked at the reviews yet!
It also gives you an index of all the 200 special covers, telling you what they all are, which I liked. What is the significance of having those 4 Final Fantasy XI covers? I've not played the game, but there must be a reason why each pixel character has been given their own cover (4 of the 5 FF covers) instead of showing something from the other FF games? Edge does say that they have had some indulgent moments, so maybe one of the team just loves that game, which is cool.
Must say I would have loved to see a Panzer Dragoon cover in there; I have a lot of love for that series, and its great artwork.
Hope everyone enjoys the issue!
"To be this good takes... AGES....."
I got the Super Sprint cover. *sigh*
Agreed. I just buy it when I miss it.
An by the way, the back cover tells you what the front cover is. Space Harrier in my case - bah!
It's too expensive to subscribe. Edge currently costs about a month of my stipend. Food or magazines, food or magazines...I choose food because if I die, I can't read the magazines I have paid for.

So much for that high fibre diet!
I like the protective foil. It will be a surprise. If it weren't for the foil you would end up with nothing but the HAWX covers left. Anyway, it's just a cover, right, who cares?
Btw, is it just me or has the website removed the reason to buy the paper copy of EDGE - I haven't bought one in ages and probably wouldn't have if it wasn't for the 200 issues thing.
I just went to see the mag in newsagents. what I dont understand is, why are the covers foiled protected? you cant tell what covers your getting. its almost annoying that you cant choose which cover your getting. is it ok to open the plastic cover to see what cover were getting in stores before buying? or is that a no no?
I expect it's in my postbox as I type.
Blast it!
Wait... HAWX? Jesus. Scraping the barrel.
Yeah, where's Oblivion?
