GTA IV add-on The Lost and Damned has attained more first-day revenue than any other 360 downloadble title, according to Microsoft.

The platform holder also claims that The Lost and Damned had, a week before its launch, saw a greater increase in active users over Xbox Live than any other downloadable content.

Rockstar’s The Lost and Damned launched on Feb 17, nearly a full year after the Western release of the publisher’s record-breaking GTA IV. The DLC is the first of two Xbox-exclusive add-ons that Microsoft reportedly paid some $50 million to acquire exclusive rights to.

It’s no surprise, then, that Microsoft is flaunting what success its investment has yielded. The firm stated that The Lost and Damned is “the highest reviewed downloadable content ever” and had “eclipsed first-day revenue for all previous downloadable content on Xbox Live”.

“The success of The Lost and Damned redefines what consumers expect from game add-ons,” says Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live. “Content like this is extending the lives of our favourite games and fundamentally changing the way we play.”

Microsoft has not yet stated if it expects a return on its $50 million investment, or if the GTA add-ons were always seen as loss-leaders. So far Rockstar and Microsoft have kept quiet on the second downloadable title for GTA IV.

I haven't downloaded it yet. I like GTA IV but just not sure if "Lost and Damned" is worth it. How many think it's worth it?

360 is still my main system(have all 3) due to really having a hell of a library. I've also been one of the lucky ones and haven't had a faulty system.

As far as game of the year goes(I realize it's still very early) I would be surprised if that doesn't go to the PS3 for KillZone 2. I've only played the demo so far and it's pretty damn good.

I was one of the record breakers!! After the initial high quality cut scenes, it's the same old gameplay and i haven't played it much, but then i have just bought a PS3 with the excellent Killzone 2... and the not so excellent LBP... Those PS3 exclusives better live up to the hype this year as i already have an adequate dust collecter called a Wii.

Oh, and why are all the bikers sporting short hair... is it to keep Johnny mainstream happy?

Thank you Rockstar for shafting those of us who decided to buy the system that does not die every couple of months. I guess $50 million makes it easy to screw over some of your most loyal fans. I really hope you don't choke on all of that money that may overheat and blow up. Maybe you should see if MS will give you a warranty on it.

GREAT JOB MICROSOFT. They are so good at spending money!

Wow $50 Million. They could've just paid it to Sony to leave the console race. --- and maybe a mil for me to shut up.

If MS had expected a return on their $50 million investment they'd be all over the press with it by now so we have to assume that they don't expect it back.

you brag about revenue when you can't brag about sales, its a common pr tactic

The finest 1600 ms points I ever spent I could not have been happier with lost and damned, which in my eyes redefined what is expected from DLC. Im not sure how many other devs have a 50 mill cheque incentive though so maybe thats unfair.
I personally find it very difficult to put into words just how highly I rate GTA4 as a complete body of work. Add to that a well planned multiplayer mode that also tried new things as well as providing literally countless 'omg wtf' moments between friends and you have a game, which in my view, is way bigger than merely Game Of The Year 2008.
I find it very interesting that what i perceive to be a minor fan backlash more often than not comes from users with a ps3 forum signiture.
