Microsoft US has announced that nearly 100,000 gamers participated in one of the nation’s largest unofficial presidential polls.

Carried out over Xbox Live since August 25, the initiative enabled Xbox 360 users to cast their presidential votes using their game controllers.

Senator Barack Obama received 43 percent of the votes and John McCain picked up 31 percent.  13 percent of voters said they were undecided, while the remaining 13 percent voted for others.

According to Microsoft, the sample of 100,000 voters was larger than the combined samples from individual Gallup, NBC and CNN polls.

The company said that more than 55,000 voter registration forms were downloaded through Xbox Live and Xbox.com during the first two weeks of the program, and that videos from the recent Democratic and Republican conventions were downloaded nearly 25,000 times.
