For his efforts in the field of game design for over twenty years, Hideo Kojima has been handed the prize for Lifetime Achievement at the ninth annual Game Developers Choice Awards.

Yet Kojima, the puppeteer behind that mesh of narrative strings known as Metal Gear Solid, announced at the ceremony that his work would continue for a long time.

Kojima, 45, said that he would never retire from the industry, and would keep making games until the day he dies. Such a vow is not rare for an industry built by individuals whose pastimes have developed into careers, yet fans of Kojima’s work will no doubt be delighted that his presence in the games industry could very well be counted in decades.

Also receiving special honours at the Game Developers Choice Awards were Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy; the two entrepreneurs who, back in 1995, formed a startup development outfit; Harmonix. Both picked up the Pioneer Award.

The duo met at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where Rigopulos was a graduate of computer science and musical composition while Egozy was a graduate of computer science and electrical engineering.

After their debut title in 1998 (a PC game entitled The Axe: Titans of Rock), the team would go on to popularise the GuitarFreaks concept of playing a game with a toy guitar, and managed to successfully take that idea into the homes of millions.

A third industry individual prize was presented at the ceremony, this time awarded to Tommy Tallarico, the lifelong game musician who has worked on some 275 games.

Tallarico developed the idea of a Video Games Live concert, where memorable and iconic game music is played with a live band or orchestra. The idea has, on many evenings, draw crowds of 100,000 people, which is why Tallarico was given the Ambassador Award.

Watching the man take the Award at the GDC 09 conference, and hearing him talk about his future and his dedication to the industry, there is nothing more I can say than well received and well said Mr. Kojima. Plus all you haters can drink up on your hatorade all you want! The guy is a genius!

MGS4 on PC? I can't imagine playing that game through for the first time sitting in an office chair. The only way I made it was prone on my couch with a couple of pillows so I could doze through the cut scenes.

Kim_Naroz, why do you defend Microsoft so vigorously?

Do you not realize what an awful company they are?

Dude Kojima despises the Microsoft 360...here's a lil tid bit on why MGS4 won't come on the 360. The main characters use a Mac computer. I mean its a small detail but he doesn't care about the 360 and btw if he did release it on a 360 itd be about at least 6dvds big so have fun with that collection.

6 dvds ? nahhhhhh once you sling all the pointless p*ss poor banter out and all you're left with is game cough cough they should be able to get that on cd-rom i would have thought lol.

Given he had to slice and dice his game to make it fit on a BD, you might even be erring on the light side for your disc count. Maybe as many as 10 if he was a 50gb disc. That's a lot of swapping!

Gaming God
All I can say is grow up. If you really wanted to play it buy a PS3. Im sure Konami have not regretted their decision to release it only on PS3 and have made a tidy profit from it

Really why even comment when you have no valid point.

Because it's his job. He's an employee for Microsoft, pretty sure for the games division too. I remember someone outed his real name a while back, but i've forgotten it.

Yeah, he even had a wiki page dedicated to him, search for any of his pseudo-names on Google and he's all over the place.
The post that outed him as a troll was removed by the edge staff shortly after it was posted.
Kim, I don't understand why you keep changing your names as the regulars on here like Nick and Ozzman call you on it within the first post.

He won't retire because he knows that it will take his whole life to make up for the financial losses of not releasing MGS4 on the PC and Xbox 360.

Konami, here is a tip for you:

If you were to release Metal Gear Solid 4 on PC and Xbox 360 at this point in time, it would sell very poorly. That is what happens when you release a game late. You should have learned that from when MGS2 was released late for the original Xbox.

Deleted profile AGAIN Kim_Naroz? Geez, this must be a record, even for you. Guess you're gonna have to cover up your Pro-Microsoft agenda even MORE next time.

Yeah, he really seems to regret it Kim. So much so in fact, that he's making the game for the iPhone and put up a teaser trailer to make it look like it might be a 360 game then announced it wasn't.

If you really want to play it, you could just hire a PS3 if you can't bring yourself to buy one, but I actually think that if you picked up a DualShock, you might implode. Here's hoping. :)
