Valve’s cooperative survival horror title Left 4 Dead has now sold over 2.5 million retail copies since release.
That global retail sales figure has been amassed in the space of five months. The figure combines both Xbox 360 and PC retail sales, but does not include purchases made through Valve’s digital distribution Steam platform.
In February Valve decided to cut the price of Left 4 Dead by 50 percent, with the discount price only available for a single weekend. It was later at the DICE summit in Las Vegas where company founder Gabe Newell announced that the discount had propelled sales of the title up 3,000 percent, reigniting the long-standing debate on whether games are too expensive.
I've played the game to death, the great thing about the game is that no matter what the map; there always going to be different experiences. So you wont get bored quickly with it, and even when you get bored you have a choice to become the "special" zombies too. Not so much "just another shooter" but an fps with more of a diverse playability to it aswell.
Dont judge it by saying its another shooter. If the sales dont lie, it means the people like it!
"It's a phenomenal landmark game" - Er, no it isn't. Its just another shooter on a system swamped with too many shooters. Yes, its a novel twist to the FPS genre but its not 'landmark' in anyway at all. I'm glad I got it a much discounted price as I would never pay full price for it. I got this game cos everyone was raving about it. But just like CoD, its another flash in the pan game, though at least its good unlike CoD which is just plain YAWN...
COD4 and Left 4 dead are both superb titles, to suggest COD4 (i assume you are refering to this) is rubbish is provebly false.
It's a phenomenal landmark game, and I'm happy to hear it has sold well. I would give my right arm to see the Steam figures though - as every PC owner with a Valve game already uses Steam, and because of the mentioned sale, I would guess these numbers would be very high.
PLEASE PLEASE bring this game to ps3, I cant afford to be buying more than one console. Why does valve hate the ps3 so?? Just let EA take care of the ps3 version
Slash price in half and sell 30 times more, that surely pays off no matter how you look at it. At this point there should not even be a debate, those numbers are pretty much direct proof.
Yep, I already had it on 360, but when Steam had the 50% off sale I picked it up for my PC too, as that was simply too good a bargain to pass up.
Amen.
It will take one ballsy publisher to try this and we're off, I reckon.
