Nintendo has published a list of hardware and software releases for the upcoming second calendar quarter.
The launch of the DSi (April 3) is sure to be the most productive release from the Kyoto-based platform holder, while May sees the firm release the newest edition of the long-running Punch Out series.
Nintendo’s GameCube re-releases manage to fill the gaps, as Pikmin (April 24) and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (June) are released alongside Pokemon Platinum (May 22nd).
As well as its hardware and software releases, Nintendo will also be rebranding its Wii Points currency.
Currently, Wii Points can be used to purchase old favourites from the Virtual Console, or new titles via WiiWare. Yet because the DSi will be using a similar online shopping service, Nintendo has decided to tie both stores to a single currency: Nintendo Points.
Credit cards can be used to accumulate Nintendo Points via online transactions, though they can also be purchased in stores through 1000-, 2000- and 3000-point scratch-cards.
Meanwhile, June sees Another Code: R released for the DS as well as a new DS fitness title from Nintendo – Walk With Me – which will be bundled with two wireless pedometers.
Yet a few items not on the release list have managed to cause a small stir. Speculation surrounds the absence of Nintendo’s Wii MotionPlus accessory on the release list, as well as there being no Wii Sports Resort mentioned.
Both items were once suggested for a Spring launch – a release window which Nintendo has disputed. Nintendo declined to comment when contacted by Edge regarding the delay of Wii MotionPlus.
