Nintendo’s long-awaited DSi has become the fourth-fastest selling console in UK history.
The new handheld – which launched across the UK on Midnight last Friday – has already shown to have substantial pulling power, outselling all other systems combined over the weekend.
According to trade news site MCV, the system has even managed to outperform opening weekend sales for the original DS and DS Lite. Only three consoles have enjoyed stronger opening weekends; Sony’s PSP and PS3, as well as Nintendo's Wii.
“It’s a very impressive opening couple of days considering the lack of launch software,” says GfK-ChartTrack’s Chris Poole. He added, however, that a lucrative pre-order system had catalysed the handheld’s impressive sales, meaning that it’s difficult to tell if the DSi’s sales momentum will continue into the week.
Back in the N64 days, someone made an ‘adjustment’ to the N64 pad. It was wired through the power cable and gave you a little electric shock instead of the rumble. THAT is the only way I would buy the DSi. That and when I receive a written apology from Nintendo for the Wii.
Please help me get this I don't have enough money to buy this.

Nintendo lemmings are like Apple fans, they show up in droves every time there's a new piece of hardware, no matter how minor the upgrade
At some point the stupidity has to end.
Ken, Ozzman? Anything to say? ^^
Nope. Just let him be upset. He'll be alright one day.
Comments like that aren't worth the keystrokes to bother replying to. I avoid Troll bait.
Nah. This guy is so transparent it would be like breaking a window.
Zach, how could I forget about you? ^^ Good call on the Gameboy pocket thing. I forgot about that.
I think for a hardware update 4th is actually alot to sing about.
so it didn't sell as fast as PSP, Wii and PS3... so it's not that brilliant then.. *hits forehead with palm*... sure it's a hardware update but is 4th all that much to sing about? I think it just beat out the Atari Lynx ;-)
The PSP, Wii and PS3 are all hardware. The DSi is the 3rd version of a piece of hardware pretty much everyone owns already.
Name one other company that can claim such high numbers on a hardware revision.
Well, other than the obvious PS2 redesign from a couple years ago (I don't know if it had as successful of a launch period, but over time the slim-design PS2 had to sell millions and millions).
Nintendo has always done amazing with the handhelds and the re-designs. It all started with the GameBoy color. I suspect Nintendo may take a similar approach with the Wii and re-release it with some modifications. Shit, maybe they'll take a GBA/DS approach and release a new console that will "co-exist" with the other. The GBA continued to sell well after the DS was released and maybe Nintendo will release a more traditional high-powered console right alongside the Wii in the hopes the two can co-exist. That would be awesome. If 3rd parties start doing with the Wii what they're doing with the DS Nintendo wouldn't have to take the brunt of the software responsibility and could support both consoles at the same time. The two could overlap with Nintendo beating MS to the punch with a system with beefier specs than the 360 nullifying any head start MS may hope to get with their next console. Hmm...
Actually it began with the GameBoy Pocket. They slim lined the original GameBoy before they added color.
The next on the list was DSLite. But I agree, it's not like the DSi is a whole new handheld - it's just an update. No need for the "fourth biggest launch" headline across the net.
And lol @ "launch software"!
its a great piece of kit that i was more than happy to buy on launch day, Nintendo yet to make a mistake in hand held market....well apart from Virtual boy :)
Shocker.
I don't think the DSi can pull that off, but that would be a selling point if it could. ^^
