Troubled publisher THQ has announced that its key RTS series – Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – has topped the PC charts in significant markets across the world.

According to data compiled by both NPD and GfK, Relic’s acclaimed title has taken to the top of the PC charts in the UK, North America, Australia, Germany, France and Spain.

“We have built Dawn of War into a premier PC gaming franchise based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe,” says Brian Farrell, THQ CEO.

“We are pleased with consumers' strong response to Dawn of War II across many of our key markets and believe the game's success clearly demonstrates our primary objective of delivering high quality games with strong global appeal,” he adds.

The good news helps ease a tumultuous number of months for the California-based company. At the beginning of February, the publisher announced it would have to cut out a whole quarter of its workforce after reporting a $192 million net loss for the third fiscal quarter.
