PC enthusiast firm Alienware is preparing to cut into its workforce and close two manufacturing facilities.
Alienware spokesperson Winnie Wong has indicated, however, that the redundancies are more connected to the company’s ongoing expansion as opposed to the context of the global economic situation.
Now a subsidiary of IT giant Dell, Alienware’s manufacturing operations in Miami and Athlone, Ireland will be moved to Dell’s own existing manufacturing facilities. “This is obviously putting two teams together into one unbeatable team,” Wong told ExtremeTech.
“[The team will serve] 35 countries versus 6 countries; we previously wouldn't be able to do it with the existing infrastructure,” she added.
There has yet been any confirmation on the number of layoffs Dell will have to embark on, yet all redundancies will be made within the next seven months.
It will be interesting to see what happens.
Since Dell is so well known, people hooking on to Dell sites looking for hi-rigs, can now link to Alienware.
Lets just pray there wont be a "Alienware XPS" or a "Dell 51". Hah hah
This seems like the right direction in order to bring Alienware to more homes. It's a good way for them to expand such a niche market. I'd like to see what they bring to the table after this.
Alienware computers have always had the worst of both worlds. They have a Apple price tag with the ugliness of a PC. Seriously. there has never been a nice looking PC sold by a company. They're always beige/black boxes or they look like they're styled after some redneck's wet dream monster truck.
Between graphic card names and PC case design, the PC market has shown that it has zero taste.
I'll be glad to see them go.
I think it's in Alienware's best interest to stay as far from dell as they can. Set up plants in Antarctica.
