Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 has emerged as the UK’s biggest-selling all-format title for a third consecutive week, according to data provided by Chart Track.
The multiformat title now equals Resident Evil 3 as the series’ longest-serving UK number one. The game’s unit turnover fell by 51 percent this week, while the week prior sales had fallen just as fast; down 52 percent from its debut week.
Maintaining top position in the charts, despite successive and severe declines in unit turnover, goes some way in demonstrating the huge impact Resident Evil 5 made on its debut week.
Sitting just behind Resident Evil 5 is Wii Fit, which manages to hold second place for a third week running. Aggressive ad campaigns for Street Fighter IV – perfectly timed for a week which had few new releases – sees Capcom’s epic fighter shoot to third in the charts.
Nintendo’s Professor Layton and the Curious Village makes way for Street Fighter by slipping into fourth. Sales of the DS puzzle adventure fell as far as 40 percent, yet the game managed to stay ahead of THQ’s well-advertised WWE Legends of Wrestlemania, which slips to fifth accordingly.
As if by law, FIFA 09 and Call of Duty World at War stay glued together. Both titles have remained adjacent in the charts for nine successive weeks, with FIFA 09 usually leading the two. This week is no different; both games climb three places, with FIFA 09 in sixth and Treyarch’s World At War in seventh.
Unpredictably, Call of Duty 4, Infinity Ward’s award-magnet which was released late in 2007, has returned to the top ten. According to Chart Track, the title sits at ninth, just behind Rockstar’s DS party-crasher Chinatown Wars, which falls two places to eighth.
Tom Clancy’s HAWX takes a nosedive from fifth to tenth, while MadWorld falls out of the top 40 entirely.

And when sales finally tapers off for RE5 perhaps Capcom will release RE4 for 360/PS3. That'll make sense because RE4 can still ride the tail-end of the RE5 frenzy. Capcom, enough with your "We won't release back-titles." nonsense and DO IT. Believe me a lot of 360/PS3 owners WON'T MIND.
Deez,
Capcom said they don't release back-titles? How bout every main RE game being re-released for the GCN with updated visuals? Weren't those games back-titles? And they already released RE4 for the Wii, how's that not re-releasing an old game? I'm not saying you're lying, just that IF Capcom said that they're full of it.
yeah, but those releases where a long while back, resi 4 for the wii was released on like 1/2 a year after the wii was released. maybe it was a new statement released recently. who knows?
all they needed to do was add the briefcase attache instead of that fucking nine slot real time shitting annoying inventory screen, which dead space did 1000x better by making you able to move whilst sorting out things, instead of having the retarded inability to move everytime you wanna do something.
It is also very convenient to buy it direcly online from uk shops.
E.g. the Uk version costs 35 euro (to consumer), the european version in Italy costs 65 euro.
So 30 euro less, 46% less.
I'd really like to know how many sales are generated by continental Amazon resellers. The UK version is 15€ cheaper than Euro-Zone version and has all the languages.
