Minutes ahead of official NPD Group data, Microsoft reps said Thursday that Xbox 360 sold 195,000 consoles in the U.S.
Last month, Xbox 360 sold about 205,000 in the U.S.
The data does not include sales after August 30, so the September 5 across-the-board Xbox 360 price cut was not taken into consideration this time around. Next month's NPDs will serve as a better barometer of the price cut's affect on sales.
Microsoft did say, citing internal data, that sales for the $199 Xbox 360 Arcade sold six time more than the weekend before following the console's $50 price cut.
Citing NPD data, Microsoft also claimed a software attach rate of eight games per console.
The firm added that Xbox 360 generated third party revenues of $94 million during August, or $4.1 billion to date.
Those 6x arcade sells is referring to the new price drop and is not reflected in Augusts NPD numbers. Those were Microsofts internal numbers specifically referring to sales since the across the board price drop. The August NPD numbers ended the 28th or so of August, well before the price drop.
And by the way, the NPD numbers were released at 4:00pm eastern time, how bout an article showing all the NPD numbers, not just specific console or game sales?
Yes, i understand that. I was speaking "figuratively," for next month's numbers, not literally for this months' figures. Call it a "figurative formula" for calculating next months sales. Just philosophizing here.
Got it. Most people for a long time downplayed the significance of the arcade 360 since it was nerphed by not having a HDD, but now that its 199 I wonder if it'll start selling well. October 10th we'll see...
The question remains how many of those 195,000 were "Arcade" models and does 6X that number make any significant change it the total# of units shifted?
