215 Million Monthly Users For Zynga
The company reveals growth and traffic stats – now employs more the 1,200 staff and adding 1,000 servers a week.
Speaking at the Oracle OpenWorld conference, Zynga CTO, Cadir Lee, revealed stats which detail the company’s global operations, including server farm sizes, employee counts and data transfer levels from games like FarmVille and FrontierVille.
According to the Lee, ten per cent of the internet’s users have played a Zynga game, which equates to around 215 million monthly users. In order to accommodate this traffic the San Francisco-based company regularly bolsters its server farms, adding up to 1,000 units per week.
The data moving through these farms totals more than one petabyte (1000 terabytes) every day, and they’re capable of supporting up to three billion simultaneous neighbour connections within the company’s social games.
To maintain all of this, Zynga employs over 1,200 full time staff, working across 13 worldwide studios, many of whom were gained through the Zynga’s recent acquisitions of companies such as XPD Media, Challenge Games and Unoh.
Lee also outlined three primary goals for Zynga: establishing trust with its users, providing quality experiences for its users and making games available. The company hopes to reach a larger audience through its expansions in Asia and the recently launched Chinese version of Texas Holdem Poker.
Zynga secured a 13.5 billion yen ($147m / £98.8m) investment from Japanese telecommunications and media firm SoftBank earlier this year.
