2K Games Revives Sid Meier’s Colonization
2K Games revealed Monday that Civilization IV: Colonization, a “complete re-imagining” of the 1994 strategy game Sid Meier’s Colonization, will be available this Fall.
The game is currently being produced by Firaxis and will be released exclusively for Games for Windows. Civilization IV: Colonization is being built in the Civilization IV engine, but is a standalone product that will not need the original Civilization IV to run.
Like the original Colonization, players of Civilization IV: Colonization will be asked to choose from four European factions, before taking that faction to the New World. Colonies will have to be created and made to thrive before eventually fighting for independence.
Director of creative development Sid Meier said of the project, “We’ve received many requests from fans over the years to bring back Colonization and now seemed to be the perfect time to do that. The Civilization IV engine provided a fantastic foundation for a new Colonization experience and allowed us to create something great for both new players and long time fans of the game.”
