38 Studios Appoints New CEO

Jennifer MacLean promoted to chief executive officer as Brett Close departs as president and CEO.

38 Studios has simultaneously announced the departure of president and CEO of two years Brett Close and the promotion of Jennifer MacLean from senior VP of business development to CEO.

Prior to her appointment in March 2008, MacLean was VP and GM of games at leading US cable firm Comcast. She was also a founding member of the IGDA Steering Committee for Online Games and we previously named her as one of the top 100 influential women in the game industry.

“It’s an honour for me to have the opportunity to further contribute to 38 Studios’ future,” she said. “38 Studios has a high level of responsibility to our consumers and the industry and I will ensure we deliver on that promise. I’m excited about leading the incredible developers here and expanding our strategic vision of allowing customers to interact with our products and stories where, when, and how they want.”

Founded in 2006 by Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, 38 Studios is currently working on an original fantasy MMO codenamed Copernicus.

In May 2009 it acquired Rise Of Nations developer Big Huge Games from publisher THQ, including all of the company’s proprietary IP, tools, technology, assets and works-in-progress.
