Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed that an 80GB PS3 will be released in all PAL territories on August 27.
The new unit, which will cost £299 (€399), will replace the existing 40GB model. The recommended retail price of the 40GB PS3, which is expected to be out of stock by the time the new model launches, will remain at £299.
“There is more downloadable content than ever before, with the emphasis moving towards user generated content, something clearly seen this week in LittleBigPlanet,” said SCEE president David Reeves.
“When you add this to the already compelling entertainment offering on PS3, where you can store games, music, videos and pictures, the extra storage becomes invaluable.”
SCEE went on to reveal that new PSP and PS2 bundles will be introduced throughout PAL regions. The firm said that they will vary by territory, providing local content for local markets.
Earlier this week SCEA announced that it would be also be replacing the existing 40GB PS3 with a new $399 80GB model this September.
