Both key publishing arms of Activision-Blizzard have stormed the UK all-format charts by accounting for over 25 percent of all games sold this week.
Activision’s Call of Duty: World at war entered the charts at number one, becoming the UK’s third-fastest-selling game of all time (behind GTA IV and San Andreas.)
Following close behind at second spot is Blizzard’s World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, an expansion which has taken an accolade of its own by becoming the UK’s fastest-selling PC game of all time. That record has stood firm ever since March 2003 when Sports Interactive’s Championship Manager 4 stormed the shelves.
Fittingly enough Sports Interactive’s latest title, Football Manager 2009, follows behind at third after becoming the fastest selling iteration of FM ever since the company had split from Championship Manager publisher Eidos and joined Sega.
Further down the chart, Activision’s Guitar Hero: World Tour has landed at sixth (up from 17 last week) following the launch of the game’s peripheral bundles.
Gears of War 2 makes the expected high fall of 64 percent, dropping from the top last week down to fourth. FIFA falls to fifth but what surely must be most disappointing for EA is its newest entry, Mirror’s Edge, which limps in at number 20.
Nintendo’s Wii Music breaks the mould set by other Wii Series titles such as Sports and Play by dropping into the charts at sixteenth.
