Alan Wake coming to PC early next year

Remedy has announced that Alan Wake will finally see a PC release in 2012, seven years after the game was first announced for the platform.

PC-specific features, a publisher and distribution channels weren’t revealed, although the game was reportedly discovered in the Steam registry earlier this week.

The Finnish developer did confirm in a press release that the PC version will include The Signal and The Writer, two previously released Xbox 360 DLC packs, and arrive in the first quarter of 2012, the same window as Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, which was announced for Xbox Live Arcade on Saturday.

“Remedy Entertainment is proud to announce the PC release of Alan Wake,” the company said in a statement. “The game will give PC gamers the Alan Wake experience they have been patiently waiting for. Remedy is a developer with deep roots in the PC space (Death Rally and Max Payne 1 and 2), so the game will have the high resolution polish that long-time fans will expect.”

Microsoft was initially set to publish Alan Wake on PC and Xbox 360, but the firm announced it had cancelled the PC release just three months before the game’s console exclusive launch in May 2010.

"Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen,” the platform holder said at the time. “This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform."
