The US army has closed the Emeryville, California-based studio responsible for America’s Army.
A number of developers were let go this week following the release of PC military sim America’s Army 3, according to a ShackNews report.
Future development of the free-to-play series, which is used as a recruitment tool, has been shifted to the army’s Redstone Arsenal post in Alabama.
"This consolidation will allow us to gain efficiencies between our public and government applications," a spokesperson told the site. "We appreciate all the hard work that every member of the America's Army team has contributed to the project, and we look forward to delivering future America's Army game releases in the months ahead."
The US army first launched America's Army in July of 2002, and has released updates to the game on a frequent basis.
It says that it “creates and distributes America's Army so that young Americans can virtually explore soldiering in the US army like soldiers experience it – as individuals and as members of teams.”
Down with the propaganda machine!!
You only have to watch 30min of this film to realise that FPS games and real live armed conflict are not the same thing! Particularly interesting is what these guys say about their recruiters!
What a happy planet this is!
How are we going to learn how to "free" countries too under-developed to truly understand the value of capitalism. Has "Shock & Awe" already lost its luster?
Seriously, who cares? This game's not even cool. You think if the military was so interested in this as a recruitment tool, they'd hire some decent artists, at least, & make you feel like you're really there. I'm more inclined to believe in the covenant than some of the enemies in this game.
yea I hear the game was very bugy not worth playing. I have to say the youtube videos was impressive
I was hopeful for a moment that we would be free of the plague that is NWO's Army--oops, typo, I mean America's Army.
Leave Hulk Hogan out of this.
Don't worry, I'm sure another propaganda effort is in the offing. Remember that Pandemic Studios' Full Spectrum Warrior (as in 'full spectrum dominance', they have this knack for inserting military entrapment terminology into the game title) - was made with the tacid approval of the US Military.
And the Army has as of September 2008 released it as a free download. And thereafter we had Mercenaries 2 (another Pandemic effort), with US mercenaries invading Venezuela and toppling their government. That one was so blatant even Chavez took offense at it - he even pointed out Pandemic's prior involvement with the Army.
