More than 300 million Android devices have been sold worldwide, Google has confirmed.
The news comes from a post on the Google Mobile blog to coincide with the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which began yesterday. Google also claims that 850,000 Android devices are activated every single day, representing growth year on year of over 250 per cent.
At last year's MWC, Google said there were 150,000 apps on the Android Market; a year later that has tripled to more than 450,000, and the marketplace now hosts a billion app downloads every month.
Naturally, Google's mobile OS has a significant presence at MWC, with 100 devices on show at the Android stand. The company is showing off Android Beam, which enables sharing of web pages, videos, directions and apps by touching two Android phones back to back.
