Angry Birds Passes 100 Million Downloads

According to Rovio, physics puzzler Angry Birds has been downloaded more than 100 million times since its release in 2009. The figure was revealed by business development director, Peter Vesterbacka, speaking on a panel at the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas. Vesterbacka reiterated some additional stats, such as the games 40 million monthly active users (MAUs) and the 200 million minutes a day they spend playing it.

"Tablets are killing consoles," he said. "Four generations of new tablets come before a new console, if one ever comes." Despite this assertion, Rovio is still playing it safe, having already released Angry Birds on PSN and planning to bring the game to other consoles before the end of the year. The game is also now heading for Facebook.
