Apple has released its 4.2 update for iOS devices, bringing Game Center to iPad users for the first time. The social gaming platform adds achievements, leaderboards and multiplayer matchmaking to a growing list of supported games.
In addition, the iPad will gain multitasking and folders, while all iOS devices will benefit from AirPrint, a printer assistant; AirPlay, a digital media streaming app; and MobileMe functionality for lost hardware.
"iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. "Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit."
