Nintendo of Australia has announced that the Wii has become the fastest console to sell through 500,000 units in the country.
The Wii reached the sales milestone in 84 weeks, according to figures from independent market research firm GfK Australia.
The previous record holders, Nintendo’s DS and Sony’s PS2, topped the 500,000 sell through mark after 107 weeks on sale.
Nintendo also confirmed that its DS handheld now has an installed base of more than 1.2 million units in Australia, and that the portable enjoyed its highest individual week of sell through during the week commencing July 6, with more than 49,000 units sold.
