The average US PlayStation Network user is male and 28 years old, but the service’s audience is expanding, according to Eric Lempel, the director of PSN operations at Sony Computer Entertainment America.

“Right now, it’s primarily male. The average age is 28 years old, in usually the middle- to higher-income range. They over-index against those with graduate degrees,” he told Video Business.

“But it’s expanding. What we’re finding ever since we’ve introduced services like the video download service, we’re getting more of the household on the PlayStation Network. Some of the top rentals and sales on the video side have been content that probably doesn’t appeal exactly to that 28-year-old male. It’s more those movies that are geared toward women.”

Having launched in July 2008, the PSN currently has 12.5 million registered users in North America. According to Sony, the service has delivered more than 250 million pieces of game, movie, TV and other content to PS3 and PSP owners.

I'm considerably older than 28, but then I use the PS3 as a media hub (the blu-ray is excellent), and I must say that it works very well. Sadly, no damn downloadable movies here in the UK so far.

I'm quite a bit older than that, but then again, I've never considered myself "average" :)

I'm 24, but otherwise fit that description. Then again, I own the other consoles too..
