Average UK game industry salary is £33,123

The UK videogame industry's average annual salary is £33,123, research has found.

MCV's annual survey, based this year on 975 respondents - 579 of whom were based in the UK - from development, publishing, retail, services, PR and media, found the median salary rose eight per cent from last year's £30,667.

Ten per cent of respondents were female - in line with the industry's dismal gender ratio - and the survey highlights a disparity in earnings between women and their male peers. The average female salary was £30,254 - almost nine per cent less than the male average of £33,088.

Despite UK retail's struggles, its employees are doing well: the average store manager salary rose 13 per cent to £19,722, with shop floor staff paid £13,571, 4 per cent more than last year. Other beneficiaries include PR executives  - up 10 per cent to £27,500 - and marketing managers, up 9 per cent to £40,714. There were declines across the board in services and media.

Development salaries are outlined at the source link below, with more detailed analysis to follow in the coming days.
