Eidos and Warner Bros. have announced that Batman: Arkham Asylum has shipped over 2.5 million units to retail since launch.

The Rocksteady Studios developed title debuted late last month for PS3 and Xbox 360, while last week saw the launch of the PC version and the game’s first downloadable content.

Arkham Asylum topped the UK all formats chart for two weeks following its release and took two of the top five spots on August’s US software chart.

“The tremendous critical and commercial success of Batman: Arkham Asylum sets a new benchmark for superhero games,” said Martin Tremblay, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Rocksteady Studios created an excellent game and the sales numbers demonstrate how a powerful franchise fused with high-quality production resonates with consumers.”

We called it the best “the best superhero game of modern times” in our review, and all three versions of the game have garnered 90-plus Metascores.

This is great news for the struggling Eidos. Wish I had a PS3 to play it on.
