U.K.-based Eidos and developer Rocksteady Studios are developing Batman: Arkham Asylum, Game Informer reports.
"This completely original title explores Gotham City’s darkest location, the infamous Arkham Asylum," Game Informer's website explains. "But as a routine prison transfer goes wrong, the Joker sets his demented plan into action and Batman comes face to face with an army of his worst enemies."
The publication said the setting is "reminiscent of Bioshock" in its grittiness.
The story for the game is co-written by Paul Dini, producer and writer for comics and animated series including Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond and other DC Comic properties.
"The Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane" is the famous psychiatric hospital in Bruce Wayne's Gotham City.
The facility is where many of Batman's enemies have been incarcerated, leaving the opportunity open for Rocksteady to feature many villains from the Batman universe in the new game.
