The BBC's head of digital media technology has indicated that the corporation’s iPlayer may be made available on the PS3 in the future.
After learning that some users had managed to make the iPlayer work on PS3, Anthony Rose wrote on his blog, "We'd love to be on every popular device tomorrow, including the PS3, and it was on our roadmap.
“However, the reality is that we only have finite developer resources, and we need to divide our development time between expanding the platforms iPlayer is available on versus all the other cool things that we're working on (better video quality, personalization, new site features, etc).
"We're investigating the optimal video profile and browser proposition to enable us to officially make iPlayer available on PS3 in due course."
iPlayer enables UK internet users to catch up with programs from the past seven days that they’ve missed or want to watch again free of charge by playing them direct on the BBC iPlayer website or downloading them to a computer. The BBC's iPlayer is currently available on PCs, Wii, and on Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch devices.
