Best Buy has reported December revenues up by 12 percent to $5.7
billion, compared with $5.1 billion in 2005. But sales of entertainment
software has decreased.

Although much of the revenue increase was driven by 104 new
store openings in the past 12 months, the company reported a 5.8
percent comparable store sales gain.

However, sales of entertainment software dipped by 3.6% compared to
last year as DVD and CD sales decline. The company said gaming as a
whole posted a "high single-digit comparable store sales gain", as
growth in hardware was slightly offset by a decline in videogame
software.

In contrast sales of consumer electronics were up by 13.5%, driven by
demand for flat-panel TV sets and MP3 players; more than offsetting
declines in demand for DVD players.
