Bethesda Softworks‭ ‬is currently developing an unnamed iPhone title.

The developer,‭ ‬which has recently enjoyed fame through its action RPG titles,‭ ‬has never developed for a handheld console or mobile device before.‭ ‬Between‭ ‬2003‭ ‬and‭ ‬2004,‭ ‬however,‭ ‬The‭ ‬Rockville,‭ ‬Maryland-based outfit had produced a handful of titles for mobile systems such as the N-Gage.‭ ‬These games,‭ ‬most of which fell under the banner of Elder Scrolls titles,‭ ‬were developed externally.‭

Yet reports have emerged from the recent‭ ‬ComicCon convention in‭ ‬New York that‭ ‬Todd Howard,‭ ‬Fallout‭ ‬3‭’‬s executive producer,‭ ‬is now going to be working on an iPhone title.‭ ‬Todd Howard had appeared at the event and was at one stage part of a panel discussion along with Bioshock writer Ken Levine and Edge columnist N’Gai Croal.‭

Croal had subsequently confirmed the news via a‭ ‬Twitter post,‭ ‬which reads:‭ “‬Biggest news from Comic-Con panel:‭ ‬Todd Howard and‭ ‬Bethesda working on an iPhone game.‭”

The news continues to build the sentiment that the iPhone is being taken seriously as a lucrative and viable gaming platform.‭ ‬Back in December,‭ ‬Kojima Productions announced that it was working on a new Metal Gear Solid title for the mobile device.‭

Since the last Comic-Con International in San Diego was in July of '08, I'm guessing this news was from a panel at this past weekend's New York Comic-Con.

Though both are called "Comic-Con", they are run by completely different companies.

Apologies. Updated the article to reflect this, thanks John.

If they can shoehorn something like Oblivion onto the iPhone, we will see the revolution in gaming people have been predicting from cell phones for years.
